Afternoon folks biggrin.gif

I have had the fortune of being sent a pack of Canna Biogens "Taksenti" for a test grow clover.gif The plan is to find a keeper mother or two and use her as a clone mother for future. It was also my plan to turn all the finished bud and trim into bubble hash; seeing as this strain is billed as being good for hash production thumbsup.gif

Time wise this is going to take a while ... first step will be identifying the female plants and vegging them until they can be cloned. Once clones have been taken the original "seed" plants will be put into flowering. After flowering is complete each will be dried, frozen and then bubbled. Mean time the clones will be raised and one of each will be kept as a potential mother. Excess clones will go on to be flowered, dried, frozen and then bubbled.

Equipment being used for the grow consists of a twin 55W florescent unit for seedlings, clones and vegging. Flowering room is a Cool Tube using a 600W Son-T HPS bulb. Extraction and intake are handled by 2 6" RVK fans on a thermostatic fan speed controller. The extraction line is fitted it a 6" carbon filter to keep smells at bay. Plants are going to be grown in Biobizz allmix with accompanying grow and bloom feeds. Probably Topmax in there too.

On with the grow ... tongue.gif

Seeds came excellently packaged and sealed in a crush proof case as you can see ... contents were a strain catalogue and of course the seeds. Use by date is noted.

[attachmentid=59945] [attachmentid=59946]

All accounted for and an extra one thrown in for luck. Colouring of the seeds is quite pale with not as colourful markings as some others i have seen. They look healthy enough smile.gif

Germination is being done using "the paper towel" method. It's always worked for me in the past and i'm sure it won't fail me now. 6 seeds have been placed on a plate inside a few moist paper towels. Cling film has been stretched over the top to ensure a high humidity.

5/6 seeds have cracked and developed a tap root about an inch long. Seeds actually started showing signs of life after 18 hours. Each has been potted into a small container with allmix and has been placed in a zip-lock untill they sprout. Dull pic shown ...

Fingers crossed i should have some seedlings in 3-5 days ...

Hi Kafka
we have just germinated some Taskenti as well so will be interesting to compare, ours were started on the 13th pm using the paper towel method, they have started to sprout, once big enough they will be put into 1cm rockwool cubes then into Small net pots with clay pebbles and then into our rainforest then into a flood and drain system again with clay pebbles, we will be using canna nutes, once sexed will keep a couple for mothers all being well guitar.gif
cheers

High Kafka. I'm finishing up 3 Taskenti ladies as we speak. guitar.gif They've got another 2 wks or so to go. Once I figure out how to loads pics here I'll post some of them. I'm also flowering out a Hercules of a male to make more seeds. I seed the lower branches and leave them after I harvest the rest of the plant till the seeds are fifnished. For some reason though, I have been totally unsuccessful at cloning ANY of the Task, male or female. They're all molding before they root. They're in the same humidity dome as my seedling and they don't mold expect the rare weakling. I'm going to give the big yielder another try at taking a cutting but I've failed through out the entire flowering cycle to get one to survive. I'm sure you'll have better luck than me. Rock on. devil1.gif

Seedlings are now 17 days old now. They are pretty uniform in size and height but have been getting low levels of light due to an over crowded veg room . One is looking like a mutant too ...

24 ish days now and the seedlings are starting to become more interesting ! Short, compact looking plants with wide leaves. Side branching is starting on most of the seedlings and even the "runt" is looking quite normal growth wise. Few poor pics this week ....

Hi Kafka
just wondering if your Taskenti have shown sex yet ??
reason I ask is ours are just showing ( there in hydro) but they look strange to me ( I'm no expert by a long shot) but don't usually have a problem sexing plants but I'm stuffed if I can tell what they are, just have to give them a few more days and see

Evening DDB smile.gif

Nope no signs yet for me ! Just checked them the now and they still have nothing on display ... I'm holding off potting them up untill i know who's who, then cloning them off. How old are your plants now ? Mine are about 36 days old.

DDB
Hi Kafka, thanks for the reply
ours are 40 days from going into 1" rockwool cubes and stand about 10"'s
they are the ones in the hydro at the back, I have a feeling this is going to be a fussy strain to grow, lets hope they clone ok

Evening smile.gif

I've been meaning to update up until now have had no certainty of males or females. Pre-flowers have been there for a while but they were not developed enough to make an accurate decision.

After just checking though i have 2 females, 3 males and a non-descript .. which looks male. I'm happy with the two females for the moment. They'll be topped and clones will be taken in a few weeks time. Plants are still quite stout. Iffy pics here ...

Classic male pre-flower : [attachmentid=67464]

Female pre-flower : [attachmentid=67465]

Here's one of the females : [attachmentid=67466]

So far though the plants are looking a litle ill. They seem to like dry conditions during veg growth and have been looking sad ever since i watered them from the word go. Temps have been a little low which may have something to do with nutrient problems being displayed. Other clones and mothers in the same room are fine though.

Update soon ....

Late update .....

Final result is 3 females thumbsup.gif Looks like i have 2 leggy and a short pheno ...

Side view of the shorter ... each plant is about a 12" tall. Cuttings will be taken in a week or so with any luck.

So you ended up topping after all ? How much height have you got left ? I think that you're going to get variation between seeds no matter what strain you buy ... shame you got what seems to be pretty leggy plants. Might turn out to be a cracking smoke though thumbsup.gif

Something i meant to ask though about how you vegged the plants. Was it done under HPS bulbs ? Also did you lower the lights so they were closer to the plants or raise the plants closer to the lights ? This might account for some of the stretch.

Thanks for the heads up .. got a pic of it ? Late male showing itself maybe ?

DDB
Hi Kafka
I meant they were toped while in veg, since then I have tied them back,
we have about 12/18" left in head room, they will be 3wks in 12/12 this Thursday.

as I said I found this strain hard to sex the male / female pre flowers looked very similar, the hermie was well into flower and had good buds cry.gif but I was a bit unsure of it, tonight it had definite male flowers which were just opening I hope they didn't dump any pollen, sorry no pics its gone.

They were vegged in hydro under 2x 600w MH in cool tubes so it was not a stretch for light, everything else in the room is well sorted and they have not been stressed, beans that cost allot get well treated yinyang.gif

Using canna aqua nutes with the EC 1.8 they seem to like to feed, lets hope your right and the smoke is good cool.gif
cheers

Cuttings have rooted and been potted onto smaller pots thumbsup.gif I took a second lot of cuttings from main plants 1 and 2 and the main plants were put in flowering on April 3rd.

Plant 3 is still in veg as i was waiting to get more cuttings from her. Seeing as the cuttings from her have rooted i'll put her in flowering in the next few days.

Well, nice show up to now. Thanks for letting us know.

Pure Uzbekistan strain, and their hybrid result called as Taskenti, always showed us two main phenos.. Hard to take them out from the original landrace strain... as well. Or columnar or taller pheno with longer internodals... Never changed after its breeding, both types were in offsprings selected as well but the longest and latest phenos showed us some very strong traits.. kind of narcotic effect suites into hard nugged plants (golf ball type nugs)

Originally both were used for charas hash type. Our selections used always the most potent ones, although longer internodals). As pure, the Uzbekistan may need 12-14 weeks to fully mature and its potency is really atonishing. Hpefully, Taskenti yhbrid seems to reduce much better its flowering time. A Sensi's "Nothern Lights" was originally crossed to it for quickest results and meisosis.. anyhow, its own aroma, type of charas hash, and potency leaded the breeding on such direction as the most interesting.

Hermis were not on them so I was little surprised by its appearence... not often at all anyhow.

Best luck
Kaiki
caddis
Hi Kafka, Nice Grow'n'show!

Kaiki, Are there any other ways the two phenos can be recognized?

Take care, caddis
kaiki
Hi Caddis,

Sure, quickest phenos are columnar shape ones (hope to find some pictures from original landraces acomplish this). After F5 most of phenos were looking agaqin after the longest Uzbeki traits... (first breeding selection steps were more focused on fastest and best producers ones) so can make longer internodals and very thinck and hard buds.. aslo tend to finish 2 weeks later than other phenotype.

Arnold Layne
Looking well good M8. Nice work guitar.gif
kaiki
Nice looking indeed as Arnold says.

Taskenti dont like much feeding or watering on first weeks.... seems not to accept them so easely.... little hard to get the accurate dosage... need moist/dry regimen.... also tend to react a little slow to flowering cyles (12/12)...

...then, suddenly, they speed up building buds like crazy.... pure Uzbekistan nature smile.gif

Lets see how they come
Bet luck
Kaiki
