i was wondering how many plants do u normally put in a 5ft and 6ft tray??? also if i was to buy a 400 litre tank which i seen on another site , how many plants could i do on that ???

Ive read you can do 25 per sq meter with SOG, same should apply here, depends how big you want them

I do 1 plant per sq ft in an nft system,

a 400 litre tank is huge, you planting a forest or what? I've got 4 sq yds and use a 70 litre black plastic dustbin, occasionally doubling up to two dustbins when the plants are really drinking and sometimes 3 if I'm going away for a while.

can you elaborate on how you use the dustbins, I think I have an idea, I'm new to NFT and would like to be able to leave em for a week mor so wink.gif yinyang.gif

Obviously the nft tray has to be higher than the dustbin so you can recirculate the fluids, about 2ft6ins.

In the first dustbin I put the nutes and heater and air brick etc, if I am using a second dustbin or third I fill them with ph adjusted water. To connect the dustbins I use a hosepipe from the bottom of one dustbin to the bottom of the other, if you fill the hosepipe with water before you put them in the bins and then putting your thumb over both ends of the pipe and placing them into the water it will act the same way as a syphoning does. (I usually use two pipes to be on the safe side)

When my system is up and running I can use up to 30 litres a day, Over Christmas I was away for 6 days and had four dustbins all connected up, all were about half full when I came back.

I also don't use an ec meter as I change my nutes every week and I can just about carry the bin to the bathroom to empty it if it is only 3/4 full

I try and do everything on the cheap and the dustbins are about £10 and usefull when not growing

Hope all this makes sense, I get excellent results from nft. about 1lb per sq yd

yes i am planting a forest lol.gif the tray is 8ft by 4.5ft and 400 litres , im plannin on filling it with either 230 4 inch rockwool cubes or 144 6 inch rockwool cubes and flowering straight from clone to create sea of green , i say u can get at least 7 grams of each clone so if using 230 u gonna get 57.5 oz ish and with 144 around 35 oz per 8 weeks , think im gonna do 4 inch !!! wont be startin this till start if feb but i will do a grow diary on it!!

be interesting to see that. I veg for three weeks then flower for 8 or 9 wks for the same yield in the same area but using troughs instead of a tray.

your way seems simpler good luck
andysmokesbud
yea should work ok i think im gonna use 3 600w hps to cover the 8 ft x 4.5ft tray , and it should be finished in 7 -8 weeks from when i put clones in!!! no veg !!! i might set 2 trays up on rotation so every 4 weeks i got like 50 oz

I have found that the more space the plants have the better. I have a 424 tank (45 litres) and when I first started I put 6 in but it got way too crowded. On the instructions it said it could fit up to 8 but on my last few grows I have only put in 2 plants. The more you grow in a space the more problems you could have and the harder it is to deal with.
Quality is more important than quantity in my opinion. I grew one Blueberry plant in my tank a couple of months ago and got a really good yield and excellent quality plant.

yea but did u flower straight from clone?? cos when u do there is less to grow also i will be cutting bottom leave s off to create 1 big bud at top !!! as long as there is plenty of air flowing between the plants im sure they will be ok i hope!!! also this is a 400 litre tank remember !!! very big!!!

I am just about to start a scrog with nft, same grow area. If that is alot more successful then I will stick to that otherwise I'll have ago with your method.

Thanks for the info. I'll post a grow diary if interested

I agree with Jim (above).
I allow 1sq meter per plant. And about 500w per plant too. Keep the heat up and the Ph accurate at 6.
Air circulation adds yield enormously.

i'm into my 2nd nft grow with a 425 my first grow i had 10 plants in there 5 were male so i spaced out the 5 ladies that were left.....very very crowded after 2 weeks on 12/12.....anyway there done now and i got 6oz dry from the five ladies and a very nice smoke it is too......i'm trying just 3 ladies in this next grow and see if it affects my yeald. by the way i'm using just a single 400 hps

Yeah that looks the nuts bruv. I just took delivery of 3 GT100's But im waitin for my 2 GT424's to finish. Ive got 1000w pro ultra on a light rail. Will this be enough to cover em. Ive got a spare 600w pro ultra but dont really wanna use it if i dont have to. I do exactly the same by pushin my nutes up 2 points each week on the truncheon.I also strip most of the lower branches as you do. How many do you reckon i should put in each 1 of these suckers.
