Dr. Greenthumb
Hello. Im very new to all this. Forums i mean, not growing. So please be gentle with me. I had a go at growing a few plants a few years ago under a 400w hps with pretty good results. i used an old wardrobe and pots in a reservoir/tank system (home made). I chose the blueberry for my 1st crop (mainly coz of the novelty value (blue weed, WOW!)) Because i was on a budget, a lot of corners where cut. But still a very successfull 1st attempt. Nice stone..a little harsh though. But now i have a half decent job and some spare cash. This time round i'm gonna do it properly. I plan on building cabinets out of wood Roughly 1.5mW, 1m D, 1mH for the veg box and 1.5W, 1.5D, 2mH for the flower box. Gonna be using the Starlight system for the veg stage and i'm toying with the idea of using flourescents for flowering aswell as veg. i'd appreciate any ideas on this. Not sure about ventillation yet. I didnt have any last time and i cant help but think that it stunted their growth. Again, any thoughts on this. a friend suggested using pc fans. I also want to try c02 but it sounds complicated (and expensive). I want to go hydro and am very interested in the 8pot wilma system. Is it any good? As you can see this is very much in the planning stage and probably wont happen till well into the new year. I have a pretty good grasp on the principals behind indoor growing thanks to having read a few good books. But there's nothing like the personal touch. Unfortunately i dont know anybody else who grows. So there you go. My story. I'm gonna roll me a doobie now. Peace out!

Hello & welcome smoke.gif

Dunno much about hydro, but I would definitely say forget about PC fans, nowhere near enough grunt, you really want an inline fan specifically designedfor extraction. Check out the UK420 store

Welcome Dr G ..... Famous monica you have there - even used it myself in the early days.. whistling.gif

All you need to know is right here m8 .... ventilation & extraction ..well .. em.... I'll let others deal with that for you ... whistling.gif

Anyway hope your construction and new grow go well .... yinyang.gif

Try a 2ltr pop bottle - 1/3 full of warm water - add sugar and brewers yeast - hey presto! - your own little co2 factory .... I have 4-5 in a room 1.5m long by 0.75 wide (1.5 m height) .... How much good it really does I don't know - but it can't do any harm... wink.gif

Thought about using them but they where never open.
What happened to you?

Yeah, PC fans are no good unless you've got an action man size grow room. You want to be able to exchange the air in the grow room roughly 20 times an hour.

Flourescants have the advantage of not creating the heat of a HPS lamp, but personally I'd opt for the HPS.

Keep reading & good luck

Thanx mad. wink.gif
i think i can safely say i'm gonna rule out the idea of pc fans.
Seen some nice fan/ducting and carbon kits for about 100 squid. Whats the ducting for and where does it go in the grow room?

you have to ring up and the owner says 'ok i'll be there in 10 minutes' ....so you stand on that busy junction waiting for the door to open for what seems an age (the bill went past and gave me a hard stare unsure.gif ) ....and then he lets you into what seems like a cross between a building site,a derelict disco and a run down growshop ....

....and then he makes you feel a bit uncomfortable, not quite sure why but definitely the worst shop i've ever been in

Quite simply you connect a piece of duct from the exhaust side of the fan, find a suitable root out of the grow preferably to the great outdoors another piece of duct goes from the intact side of the fan into the grow area. I have mine quite close to the lamp therefore drawing out the excessively hot air produced by the lamp. Hot air rises so anywhere near the top of your grow will do. A carbon filter slapped on the end will help if smell is likely to be an issue.

Thanx for that mate, thats a great help (designing my growroom as we speak.) Have a virtual beer

In response to CF, i know what you mean, peered in the window a few times.
