Evening all - this hydro is looking good, but....
I'm just curious - should there be quite a few roots reaching into the reservoir and getting to the pump by week 5 of vegging (from seed)? Do I have to protect the pump somehow or hold the roots back????

Full Version: Normal To Have Roots In Reservoir?
roots do whats natural go for the water table or the closet moisture, so they do grow into the ressivoir if using certain systems
wont cause major problems
edited to add your roots will slow in flower anyways so it will be worse in vegg as theyre growing rapidly
they must be huge in nft at 5 weeks vegg ?

They're Scrogged.... well... in so much as you can scrog 3 different phenos in the same net. Just an experiment really to see what can be crammed into small spaces, so it's a little more like an s&m version of Twister. Really enjoying the whole need for attention to detail that scrogging-style grows demands. Learning curve etc.
They've entered flowering now so hopefully they won't get to the pump.

Man I never herd that befor. Root's alway's grow faster & larger in flower. Well from my experience. I hope that was just a miss print?

they still grow but a heck of a lot slower in flower
thats why you must make sure you have a decent root structure before you start flowering
otherwise your small root system will struggle to keep up supply when buds are screaming for food

You need to b careful with roots in your res - I had some go mad once, and within a week they blocked my drainage hole (they love that rhizotonic)
First I knew about it was when water started coming thru the ceiling when the pump started
It won't harm the plants having em in the res, but keep a close eye on em if you have a small downpipe

I'm keeping an eye on them. Rhizo has been added to the mix in ever decreasing amounts throughout the veg stage and I think it does make the roots just explode with growth. Then, before you know it, every time you put your hand in to adjust the pump they grab you and try and pull you in. Great triffid cross though.
I've got a bit of net stuff ready in case i need to scrog the roots too. The root structure is amazing and great to see in all their naked glory.
I'll report how the roots grow in flowering when i post the grow diary
