I have a Dimplex 400W wall heater that I want to use in my new Grow room but am unsure as to what type of thermostat to use. The heater is one of the very thin ones and just has an on/off switch with no different settings (model dxlwp400)
Would a regular room thermostat work? Eg the sort of thing that Honeywell etc make for running with the central heating? Could it handle the load of switching the heater on and off or are they designed just to turn an electrical switch on and off?
Any suggestions gratefully received.
hi,
i've used the honeywell type of room stat to control fans but i'm not sure if they would be suitable for a heater ...maybe a trip to homebase /b+q to have a look at the box to see what ampage they will handle would answer your question?
an alternative might be the sort of stat that straps on a hot water cylinder ,i've used these to control stat-less water heaters (300w iirc)in hydro ....the one currently doing the biz in my airing cupboard is rated at 3 amps

Why not just get a new heater? A honeywell will set you back between £10-£1, a new heater from B&Q will set you back £15-£20.......

Raz,
you've got a good point there, my confession is that I'm a womble, a squirrel, a hoarder. It would prob. be cheaper and quicker to buy one with a built in thermo switch so i guess I'll have to swallow my pride and do it the sensible way!
I could pinch the DeLonghi oil filled radiatir out of the babies room and use that instead? It's never THAT cold in the West Country.

The DeLonghi stays in the babies room, the Government has decreed and i must obey!
