I've had 2 back to back grows with my filter (from new - UK420 store) and I just wondered when its efficiency starts to decrease and when it does how it can be refilled. I'm sure I've read here that the material 'coat' thingy can be stuck in the washing machine - yeah? This one is grey grubby now.
Having a good filter is so important cos no matter how wonderfull you may find the the really stinky pungent smell security wise you cant just switch it off like the lights.

i do mine every year.
the grow shop i use its cheaper to get a new
one then to send off for a refill.

i've put mine on a 30C wash , it didnt come up as clean as new but it wasnt far off ..i've heard zapping it with a high pressure air line is good too .

there not dear though and they considerably prolong the life of the carbon in the filter.

That would depend on how much smell your putting through it ......

what Raz says...coz i grow cheese (very smelly) my filter lasts one crop ..i have a nice friendly hydro shop who will sell me a sack of carbon so it works out at about £20 to refill rather than £40 -ish if they do it .

i have friends who have are using the same filter without changing the carbon for over a year but there growing much less smellier weed than me.....

I did 4 grows with mine until I had to refill and the last grow was with AK and we all know what a stinky bitch she is

I reckon I could have gotten away with it for another grow but didn't want to take the chance.
