hi barry scott here asking what you lot think of my first attempt at a grow drobe which i've just finished converting , it measures about a meter wide and 3/4 meter deep and 5 foot high even managed to get it 100% light tight which is good as its running 20/4 at the minute to veg the 3 plants you see in it which are cinamon from femaleseeds.nl which are only about 2 and a half weeks old and about 6" high with loads of leaves already. i've fitted a couple of pc fans to give it some new air and the lights you see are a daylight 125 watt envirolight and another compact flourecent untill i can afford another enviro which is fine as it dont heat up that much and keeps the temps about 80 degrees when on and about 60 odd when off. any coments or advise would be most welcome as this is my first grow sorry about the crap pics as crap camera = crap pics

cheers

hi barry

nice drobe mate:smoke:

you gonna get youself a carbon filter and extraction fan....a must for any grow room?
ouncyboy
Hi Barry the drob looks fine ,is that foil on walls or mylar if its foil,it could cause heat spots.also i think your gonna need proper extraction ,as those pissy p.c fans aint gonna pull in the amount of carbon dioxide rich fresh air they need to grow. And your humidity is gonna go throuth the roof the last thing you want is to grow some lovely bud only for it to be spoiled by mold
barryscott
hi folks
i've been doing a few changes to the drobe since last post ,i've now mounted both the pc fans at the bottom and mounted a shower type extractor fan to the top both lots of fans come on in unison the pc fans aid the sucking in of clean air at the base and the shower extractor sucks it out the top . the stale air is then ducted out the back and into the outside world through a tuble dryer vent which has flaps which shut when the fan is off to stop cold air blowing back into the grow room. the vent also has a shroud over it to prevent people seeing any light leaking out when its on . i'm not to bothered about smells getting to the outside world as i stay in a very quiet area quite a bit away from any other propertys and the vent is at the back of my house about 20 odd feet up and i'll only be growing 2 plants at a time so they shouldnt stink too much . all in the whole lot cost just under £30 from B&Q . the stuff you see in the drobe is tinfoil but i've ordered some nice shiney milar which should be here any day now so i'll be sticking it up as soon as it appears . i've sussed a nice easy way to mount it up without creases etc as was used on big urls drobe i got some stuff from work which is a really strong version of spraymount which carpet fitters use to stick carpet edges down with, you spray it on and it stays in liquid form for about 5 mins which gives you enough time to mount the milar or tinfoil . then after about 10 mins its strong as a rock and heat resistant to 150 odd degrees which is plenty hot enough for any grow room . also forgot i've now used silicon round all the seams and edges etc even round the back to make sure none of those nasty niffs from stinking me house out

i'll be posting a few pics up when i've got the milar up and the drobe if finally finished .
ps
the cinamon plants are doing really well under the 125 watt enviro and the 20 watt compact flourecent and they are growing at about 1 inch a day and are bushing up nicelyand are going onto the 12 12 on thursday. as big url has got another 2 plants on the in his drobe which will be lovely and ready to go into flowering when these ones have just finished flowering
cheers

Im well impressed guitar.gif
Hi, my drobe is similar to yours, only with 2 doors, how did you manage to get it light tight, door sealant dont work for me as there are chinks I cant get rid off, the problem areas are the top, the middle space where the doors join, the area where the hinges are and the bottom. Im no joiner and am running out of ideas, currently putting them in a dark makeshift box for 12/12 dark period.

Hi endeema, have a look at Kmus2k`s growrobe for a fine example of lightproofing wink.gif

Hi MDP

The above fine example of a light proof drobe was one that I have prevoiusly seen. I am no joiner, without sounding sexist, I am a female grower and in my days us lasses didnt get experience of joinery so over the years have sewn, drawn knitted and other stuff but alas no joinery skills.

Was lookin for some seal to put around the doors etc, but all I can see in the local diy shops is really thin door seal etc, at the moment am stumped by these chinks of light.

hi
getting the drobe light tight was a nightmare basically i tryd a few ideas to no avail and went out and bought 1 inch square beading from b&q and screwed this on the inside where the doors close all the way round the drobe front so it sits level with the doors when closed i had to cut away bits for the hinges but i filled the gaps in with white bathroom sealent and also sealed around all the beading where it meets the drobe to stop light leaking out between the 2 layers of wood . then i got some brown draft excluder and and put a layer all round the areas where the doors met the one inch beading . where the 2 doors meet in the middle i got a piece of wood a half inch thick and 3 inches wide and screwed it on the inside edge of door on the right hand side so when you shut the doors the right hand one shuts first and the left hand one closes against the overlapping wood on the right door so no light can gets through , this piece was also sealed with draught excluder . also where the doors open i put an overlapping layer of foil between the doors and the drobe side so no light can escape through the hinges. i also fitted a couple of bolts top and bottom on the right hand door to keep it shut tight and fitted a stelth lock which keeps the left hand door tight shut against the drobe . you have to push the left door in to release the presure against the door caused by the draught excluder and turn the wooden handle to the left to release the door you cant see any lock but it would take a nosey person ages to suss it out as there are no locks on view .
i'll post up a few pics to show somw of the detail as it sounds complicated . but is easier when seen

hi emdeema

had the same problems with ligh leaks round the door of my drobe curied it by glueing velcro around the frame then cutting a piece of light proof material to fit around frame and glued velcro to that...works a treat

endeema, what about throwing a blackout curtain over the front of the cupboard when you need it lightproof? It`s hardly ideal or very professional looking but should suffice all the same, you could staple it or pin it across the top of the drobe and then throw it ontop when you need to open it.

hi the first pic shows the door overlapped with foil which helps prevent light leaking out the hinge

the second pic shows the overlapping piece of wood that stops light leaking out between the doors

the 3rd pic shows the lock type thing i made up to keep nosey people at bay its not finished yet as i was only trying out an idea to see if it worked which it does so i'll be tidying it up in a bit

the 4th pic shows the bottom of the drobe where the beading meets the door

the 5th pic shows the top of the drobe where the doors seal against the beading when closed

sorry about the poor quality of the pics as my digicam is about 7 years old now and a bit crap

hope this helps you out a bit in your quest for light proofing your drobe[attachmentid=49308][attachmentid=49309][attachmentid=49310][attachmentid=49311][attachmentid=49312]

hi folks me here again with a bit of an update
the drobe was done out in milar a few weeks ago and another couple of compact flourecents added . the plants have been on the 12 12 for about 16 days now and stretched out like mad they almost doubled in size and i had to tie them over quite a bit as i was almost out of room. the plants took the bending pretty well and all the buds seem to be pointing lightwards which was a relief and there seems no signs of stress from being bent double.
