Most of the noise comes from the air moving through the ducting yinyang.gif

Which can be reduced by buying acoustic ducting wink.gif

well i already bought these two duct extractor fans on ebay 34.gif

They were a good price at £30 each, are both 100mm and gush out 270m3/h..

The only problem is that when iv'e turned one on its quite noisy, im not sure if some ducting on there would reduce the noise, i think it will to a certain extent but not completly spliff.gif

What other methods are there to reduce fan noise guys? i know about bungee/net hanging, does anyone use soundproof boxes around thier fans or can anyone point me in the direction of a thread where someone shows how to make one whistling.gif

Im using 2 Rvks, one 4" and one 6". They are both in the attic above the G/R.. The 4" (intake)is on constant whilst the light is on. Needs no silencer and is hung on bungees..

The 6" (725 3m)(extraction)was a bit noiser (motor wise) So I made a box for it.. But the airflow down the flue was very noisy even with a silencer, so I installed a fan speed controller and slowed it to 1/2 speed to quieten it...

With 2 4" you should be able to get them silent running.. thumbsup.gif

Basically a timber frame box, skinned with ply or chipwood.. 1 hole either side slightly bigger than your ducting.. Build all sides of the box (except 1 with a hole)
Put the fan in box, and connect one side of the duct thru the hole.. Then fill with desired insulation. I filled mine with fire retardent loft insulation..
Put 2nd thru duct thru hole in panel not screwed to box, connect to fan and then screw the front of the box on..

Hope that sort of explains it. thumbsup.gif
