De Ja Vu?

Im running two computers on a basic home network, my pc is the gateway for the internet.
The other day I broke my network card so I put a new one in, plugged the cable in and tried to get onto my girlfriends computer but couldnt see it. Then I noticed my internet was down.
I ran the network setup wizard, on both computers. We can both get internet now but we cant see the other computers.
what do I need to do?
On my pc, if I go to workgroup computers I can see her computer but cant access it. I dont have her shared folders in my network places any more. If I click view workgroup computers on hers then it just hangs and I have to ctrl/alt/del it.

someone please help me?

cheers

isn't this the same problem as last time?

have you tried re installing the card?

Sounds like you haven't activated file & print sharing in your network options

Check that both machines belong to a workgroup of the same name.

I think that net wizard thing sets up your network with ip 192.168.0.* and workgroup MSHOME.

You wont be able to access shares unless file and print sharing is turned on.

the "net view" command will show you your network. and
"net view ServerHostNameorIP" will show you the SMB shares on that host.

if you issue the first command and only one machine is shown then either your ip settings are wrong or your machines belong to different workgroups/domains.

if the second command fails then most likely file and print sharing is dissabled.

Thanks,

Ive run and rerun the network setup on both comps.

in Workgroup computers on my pc I can see both computers, but cant get into hers.
She cant see any ph34r.gif

weve both got the same network name (this time pinch.gif )

where is this fabled file and printer sharing? Ive seen it before but I cant remember... spliff.gif

p.s.
the first command worked, both comps showed up, the second failed.

No probs m8

I cant quite remember how it's installed, XP is strange!

If you right click on a directory or drive is there a Sharing and Security option?
If so, select it and check an option to the effect of share this folder or allow file and print sharing, this should install the networking components.

if the sharing and security option isnt there go to your LAN properties and there will be a list of networking components with check boxes such as TCP/IP and NetBIOS. You need the "file and printer sharing for micro$oft networks" checked. If it's not there click the install button and choose it from the avaliable components.

Im sure there is another easier way of installing it with xp but i cant remember how!
