GW Pharma launches cannabis drug in Canada

Mon Jun 20, 2005

LONDON (Reuters) - GW Pharmaceuticals Plc's (GWP.L: Quote, Profile, Research) pioneering cannabis-based medicine has been launched in Canada, the firm said on Monday as it posted a slightly reduced first-half loss.

GW said its Sativax medicine was now available by prescription in Canada to treat pain in adults with multiple sclerosis.

GW's shares plunged earlier this month when the firm lost an appeal with UK regulators, meaning it will have to produce more data on Sativex before it is considered for approval in Britain.

GW said it made a net loss of 5.1 million pounds in the six months to March 31, compared with a loss of 6.9 million in the same period of the year before.
