..or X-Box 360 as it's now known

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm

Certainly an improvement in the aesthetics department. No idea what half the specs mean but they sound impressive guitar.gif

hmmmm.... Microsoft have pushed out what is essentially just a high spec PC (with 3 processors instead of the usual 1) - nothing new or exciting - they are solely trying to get their next gen console out before sony BECAUSE....

Sony's PS3 is something a bit special - It raises the technology bar to a whole new level - They're new processors are truly next gen - using 'cell' technology (or is it core? - can't remeber whistling.gif ) anyways it's basically like the chip tecnology in the terminator! - One chip with many processor cores that distribute work intelligently between them for maximum efficiency.

So push comes to shove MShite are just going for cash over content whilst Sony are truly pushing the boundaries

Nintendo as well are looking at things in a whole new slant - not trying to outdo these big boys but working more on how we play games and who plays games - to try and bring a whole new slant to the genre rather than just going for highest specs.

takes off nerd hat....

Cell processor.. both the PS3 and Xbox 360 use them, 'cept the PS3 is rumoured to use four cores instead of three. I expect performance of both will be so similar the specs are irrelevant.. people will buy according to what games they want to play.
Blabblabberbab
I'm not so sure mate....

The Xbox2 dosn't have the so called 'cell' processor sony and IBM have been developing - it's based on current chip architecture.

PS3 : -

QUOTE
So the way that the Cell processor works is that there is a pool of 16 or so of these (probably not completely identical) RISC or SIMD/VLIW cores on a single die. The system will do its processing by drawing resources from this pool on a task-specific basis. For instance, the audio processing subsystem will consist of a set of software routines that request cycles from the pool for the purpose of processing 3D audio. The 3D engine will similarly request cycles from the same pool for rendering, and similarly with the game AI system, etc. The different processing cores will probably be grouped together dynamically by software into "teams" in order to complete specific tasks (i.e. 3D rendering, audio, etc.). Each team's size will scale dynamically to fit its current workload by either acquiring new cores from the pool or releasing unneeded cores back to the pool for use by other processes

I don't pretend to be an expert on this but I have a lot of friends in the games industry and they all say the same about Xbox2 / pS3

Anyways, this is just what I have heard and I'm biased towards ps2/3 Nintendo whistling.gif

peace tho mate, consoles is consoles is consoles you pays ya money you makes ya choice! - I never get to play on mine anyhow as the missus fucking hates it!

Whatever the capabilities, if the games are shit, no-one will buy them. I still dont think the capabilities of the XBox have been fully used yet, there have been a few good games such as spiderman2 and the soon to be released GTA:SA, but 90% of the games have had no thought put into them whatsoever, graphics have improved considerably but most games are just a polished rehash of a game that was better 5 years ago.

Just my opinion.

Hmms praps yer right.. I guess Sony probably wouldn't be letting Microsoft use the chips they helped design. Though the XBox's custom PowerPC chips with vector processors sound pretty much the same as cell processors but without the name wink.gif

http://media.xbox.gamespy.com/media/744/744413/imgs_1.html looks good.. if you squint a little it's like reality.. ish.

I am already saving up for one of these.

I was massively underwhelmed by the PS2 when it came out - not that much better than a dreamcast was my initial opinion.

I love my xbox. I have 2 of them - one for xbox live, and another wired up as a media hub - streaming music and movies from my hard disk, and for playing bootleg games on.

The screenshots on some of the games look amazing - the Ghost Recon ones especially look impressive
makeyourself
yeah the xbox was a fantastic console, i have a crystal one with a 200gb hd in it and leds in the controller ports and it can do just about ne thing.

PS2 was a bit shite imo poor graphics etc but ill defo be saving up for an xbox 2. It sounds amazing.

In all honesty what ever console u get ull prob be happy with it.

The X-Box 360 isn't just a games machine - it's Microsoft's big push into the living room, with a full on media centre application. This is Microsoft bringing their hardware to the masses - i.e. MS never made PCs, cos they were waiting for this moment.

They're positioning it away from the PS3, to aim more to a mainstream, rather than a gaming, market.

It certainly looks like a tempting bit of kit... specs r nice too guitar.gif

Turns out those aren't actual game shots.. they just 'accidently' leaked out of the software company to provide some hype. I thought some of them were a bit too good to be in-game graphics..

It's all very well bleating about who can do the most triangle/sec/mflops blah blah blah and how shiny new car models will be, but probably the most important area for game development at the minute is physics.

I'm sick of games were people float and cars bounce around like they are made of rubber, what will distinguish games in the near future will be implementation of physics (I reckon).

Anyone seen tech demos for some of this stuff?
Try here
Meqon

The quality of games will be directly linked to ease of use and flexibilty of the Software Development Kits (SDK's), this is one area where microsoft may just have the upper hand.

here's the PS3

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59108

the nintendo stand should be showing the new nintendo "revolution" today at E3. I'm waiting for some shots and I'll post em. I don't think it will be anything like the other 2 as Nintendo say they're concentrating on games and not multimedia.

exciting stuff though.. biggrin.gif

Hmm.. I thought the PS2 looked a bit shite but they've excelled themselves with that slab of nothingness. Hopefuly the internals will make up for it!

only 3 times as powerful as the gamecube.. compared with the PS3 which they say is 35 times faster than the PS2.

still, I love Nintendo. smile.gif
They're doing a press conference soon.. trying to find a live feed. Will post it if I do.

Was that before or after the specs got even quicker though. Looks like Sony really want to stomp on the XBox.. can't see how they can possibly compete on price though with all that extra silicon inside.. hmm.

Lots of screens 'n stuff trickling out now..

I missed the live feed but from what I read quite an interesting approach Nintendo are taking.. making gameplay more important than specs *gasp* Relatively cheap hardware, free online play and a downloadable back catalogue of olde Nintendo games could attract a lot of buyers.. (not sure if they'll be free or not)

Yeah it was my own choice Blab.. but I witnessed many losing their jobs. It was a shame, back then it was the dream job (at least for me) and I had such a laugh. It's a lot more corporate nowadays. People thinking about money not gameplay.

Long Live Nintendo. smile.gif

its not the specs that count but how you use them, the gamecube has slightly poorer graphics than the PS2 or XBox but i've only ever had a graphical or gameplay glitch maybe twice whereas it happens all the time when i play a PS2 or Xbox. hopefully nintendo will realise that if they stick in a CD/DVD player they make more money than they'll lose on bootlegs. I bought a DS a couple of weeks ago and it's addictive as hell the touch screen and mic are great for controlling bits of the game, not just a gimmick.

It should all come down to who has the best games...will it? no
