i am looking to purchace a strain in order to try an alleviate the effects of chronic spinal arthritis.
someone recently advised a pure sativa strain. i dont know that mush about this but it makes sense because sativas are a good daytime smoke, ie, they don't affact mong you out that much, but what about their painkilling qualities? i thought indicas were best for painkilling?
i have looked all through the seedbanks and cannot decide on a goood sativa. i need some help and advice please unsure.gif
thanks in advance yinyang.gif
MS?MJ!
Hi DP, I think it all depends on what is causing the pain - I personally find that indicas are very good for muscle pain/spasm while sativas are better for the neuro pain caused by damaged nerves.

The sativas that I have found particularly good for neuro painkilling are Power Plant and Haze - Power Plant is avaliable for a very reasonable price from the uk420 seedbank, as is Haze but I think Haze takes much longer to finish flowering which might be a consideration.

If the pain is a combination of muscle and neuro pain or you are unsure as to the exact origin of the pain a sativa/indica cross like Pot of Gold or Skunk might be a better way to go, they are both good all-rounders as is Haileys Comet which I have just tried and been pretty impressed by.

Hope this helps,

I believe that cannabis is too varied in its composition, as are human beings for that matter to say... this will work for you, which is why I have such misgivings about Sativex.

All you can do is what you are doing now & use other peoples recommendations & hope you hit upon one that 'presses all the right buttons' for you.

There are too many variables IMO to just say that this is the best for this complaint & this is best for that.

The good thing about it though, is that you get to have fun trying all these lovely strains out in the process.

A good move perhaps, would be to contact BudBuddies who may be able to narrow that down a little further, as they have a wide variety of cannabis strains in throughout the season.

Like MS?MJ!, Pot Of Gold worked wonderfully for my arthritis, but I found that Haley's Comet, although a blinding good toke, was lacking in some of the painkilling properties I personally need.

Good luck with your quest

dr. perrie,

i may be able to help... suffer with spondulosis myself.

i have found that to function and aid in pain relief durring the day, something arounf 75% sativa being good... but they have to be good to you, so it takes a bit of testing. I found Cheese, Jack Herer, Super Silver Haze did well, Trainwreck a bit over the top (either loss in blood pressure or visuals causes black spots across my eyes... kwool)

normaly I go for indicas, bit of a longer list, but these are stronger indicas than normal.
Ak 47, Sensi Star, Pot of Gold/Hindu Kush, Blueberry, G13 x hasplant <---dont expect to do anything after this one. Great White Shark (maybe not indica), white seem to have good effect whenit comes to killing pain, but normally with no high... GWS is different... delayed reaction/creeper weed

bit short on time... i'll have to check back next week with the list

Hi, my wife suffers from arthritis and muscle spasms and she's told me that the best she's smoked for painkilling effect was some hash made from Ice with the flat screen pollinator (she said the stuff from bubble bag was different) unpressed and only cured for 1 week.
And even though she prefers to smoke green, she says that sieved hash works better for her.

Spinal arthritis reporting for duty, dunno where that came from. From personal experience only my favs have been bigbud and g13 x hash. Just had NLxAfghanxBigBud but to be honest wasn't impressed on the pain front, c99 was ok but didn't seem to last long ( I was using more than other strains ). Nothing in at the mo, due to being hounded by the council after being grassed up by my own brother, would you believe!, but I'm hoping to be giving White Widow a try soon as I can.

I shall report back if it's any use but don't hold your breath. wink.gif

I think dikki has hit the nail on the head - so many variables in both weed itself and in those who use it.
Pot of Gold has good rep, and I can say it has certainly been a decent plant for my needs (spinal stenosis).
Legend's Ultimate Indica is also a plant with a growing medi-user base, very popular I believe in the USA with the medi-users and growers. I have 5 in flower right now, but have not smoke tested them yet. More on that front in about, oh, six weeks. I did smoke test one plant about a year ago - but it had been pulled far too early due to a forced "Move" of house, and so I cannot really say much there.
I am trying some sativa growing later this year (ESBxHolyweed) to test the efficacy.

Hvy, sorry to hear your news. Bummer. Hope things settle down soon for you.

Ta Arnie, fookers'll not stop me for long. I've given my own black dog a good kicking now and am already planning.

Indicas for numbing , but no amount od cannabis will eradicate arthritic pain.

I recently had some durga mata paradise seeds very mongy and good pain control

I also can recommend white widow, white shark, for serious rediction in pain especially spinal

Is the person suffering from osteo arthritis?

Rhumatoid arthritis responds better to a sat/indica mix

Does the person have a supportive doctor who can sign bud buddies forms the capsules and cream may be more beneficial

thank you everyone. i'm overwhelmed.
i have sort of reached a conclusion. the pain is more neurological in its origins as it is caused by inflammation pressing on the spinal nerves. i sort of reasoned that, because the pain is not muscular in origin, indicas with their muscle relaxing mongy qualities would be no good.
i have bough some stuff recently from hydroponicscotland (great bargain on mylar at min) and got an email from them offering $$$off any of their sagamathera seeds. so i got a pack of 10 western winds for £35. this seems to be a good price. is western winds known by another name?am sure iv seen summat like that somewhere...
i will be germing 4 as soon as they come to grow NFT at my mates if they is no action on the NL, sharkshock front (see grow diaries and general growing questions if curious, could do with some help).
in 5 weeks the sk1s i have grown in my 250w box will be ready (first hydro grow and its worked!!). sooo, in 4 weeks time i will start to germ the WW ready for the sk1s to finish.
when the sk1s have done, i will have to modify my box. the WW is a tall plant and i only have 1.4m space so will be adding 60cm to make my box 2.0m high.
as soon as this is done the WW will be grown either NFT, bubblers, or soil.i cant decide.i'm thinking maybe 4 hydro(NFT or bubbler) and 2 soil??
i would like some organic ones you see. i wouldnt mind comparing yields either (if i actually get a yield!)
tara, and thanks again.
you are all human beings of the highest order yinyang.gif

Good luck in your venture dr pierre wink.gif
I know what you mean about neuro pain. My spine is closing up slowly and all the foramins are real tight on the nerve roots, even the ones they have drilled out.
Here's my top 5 painkillers in no order: Accupuncture (if you can find a good one, and are able to tolerate it), Sex, exercise, pethidine, codeine. All are much more effective when taken alongide the Weed.
Eat yer weed - it works better for analgesia. So butter it, or oil it, or Chocolate it and away. Just had a real nice kip of 3.5 hours (fekkin' brilliant for me), followed by another of 2 hours last night (wow, 5.5 - that's a record round here) following some capsules of oil (THANKYOU Bud-Buddies).
