Can you see pictures elsewhere on the internet?

Have you made any changes to your browser?
Any updates applied recently?
Any updates available?

Have a look in your preferences if you've set it to only accept pics from the original site. I just had exactly the same prob.

All I can suggest is going through all your web setting again, you've got pics switched somewhere.

These are all long shots but,

Maybe it could be a firewall/browser setting which is automatically blocking the download of files with certain extensions? It's unlikely that you've switched off all picture extensions, unless you were really drunk when you did it.

Maybe a portion/portions of your hard disk are becoming corrupted? I'm thinking that this might explain the gradual decline.

Is your hard disk full up? Maybe a worm/virus is gradually corrupting your hard disk?

Maybe you were unable to download any pictures two weeks ago, but your cache of internet files meant that your browser was able to display those pictures which didn't need to be downloaded. This would indicate something that happened two weeks ago maybe? New software / hardware installed?

If you've been through all the settings and nowt's happening I'd suggest you uninstall/reinstall firefox and see if that fixes.
