I have been going to do this for a while.
Just thought seeing that there are a few maggot drowners around i,d put a post up for peeps to tell us about their fishing escapades.
There must be some great stories from the past and more to come in the future

seen some funny sights while fishing one of the funniest was one night my self and a mate were out carp fishing in a major storm i mean it was hammering down . me and me mate are both sat in my bivvi he turns to me and says wouldnt it be a bastard if your alarm went now you now wot happens next his alarm starts to scream out in the storm so he jumps up and runs to his rods falling in a bed of nettles along the way
ouch !!!!!!!
he plays the fish right into the edge at which point i jump out of the bivvi to net it
it comes of at the net by this time me mate is soaked to the skin we both run for the bivvi and sit down as soon as me mate sits down the other rod is of so out he goes again into the storm this fish he lands its a sixteen pound mirror carp me mate then has to strip of naked and put a all in one thermal suit ive never laughed so much in years the next morning as we are leaving the lake we are walking up the bank with are tackle me mate says ouch wot the fuck is that i turn him round to find a 3-5 oz lead hanging from his arse attached to him by the hook stuck in his arse lovely

this is one of many ill post more up as i recall them

anyone else had any laughs while fishing ????

ps the same geezer once ate some boil up noodles on the bank and shit himself in the night out with the thermals again no bog roll so out with the copy of carp talk in the bushes

by the way recently ive caught the following

pike of 22lbs,15lbs,10lbs and several smaller which didnt get weighed this was in one session !

and a new lake record mirror carp of 22lbs (not in the same session)

well just got back from the res and i had 8 bream to 3.5lb which aint bad considering the time of year and the wind blowing the wrong way.
But i did get 4 spliffs in which was nice

Still got a slappin off my mate who had had 13 when i left.

Still at least i smoked him under the table

whilst trying to educate my lads in the art of spinning for pike one of them continually got the plug/spinner in the reeds at the edge of the river bank due to not lifting his rod up at the last few winds. I must have got him free 8 or 10 times, i was starting to get a bit pissed off with him not taking a blind bit of notice to what i was trying to teach him.
He reeled in and did it again and whilst i balanced procariously (sp) on a mat of reeds trying to unhook his snagged lure and complaining about his memory span being similar to that of a goldfish, my foot went thru the mat of reeds and sent me toppling over sideways on into the river. You should've seen their faces when i got out. I have never seen anyone try that hard not to piss em selves laughing.
I was absolutely gutted as i'd just rolled a nice single skin beanie and i'm afraid i had only just lit the fucker an all.
This ended our excursion rather abruptly and we had to walk back to the car past two anglers en route who also had a right good laugh at my expense.

I got caught short one day barbel fishing miles from no were the night after beer and a kebab and managed the squirt what seemed like boiling oil about three feet but luckily i all ways take bog roll with me because of something that happened when i was 8 and involved a beer towel i used to handle eels,

i aint really got any amusing stories, apart from chucking some kid in the canal to get my reel he managed to kick in when harassing me. he kept asking me to show him inside my keepnet whilst i was playing a fish, runs forward to see wot i was doing and kicks my spare reel into the canal. played the fish in (1.5lb roach btw ), unhooked and put it in my keepnet, then stood up, picked him up and chucked the little fucker in the canal and pointed a sharp bankstick at him until he managed to fish out my reel (excuse the pun). not too thrilling, but funny as fuck seeing his face mid-chuck into the canal

thats a fair old slab of a bream there m8. being brourght up with the river colne
on my doorstep as from a nipper mi old man used to take me to this special place
we used to catch good quality roach dace perch chub every fresh water fish you could think but i still fish this water and all you catch now is chub bream just like the one you had in ya pic and carp. but all good fish and in good nik. cut it short i was with my mate biff and i was trying to cast under this tree i got snagged a couple of times i just could not cast to were i wanted my baite? Brilliant idea put my ledger weight and my hook baite in my magapult and fire it under the tree leave of the bailarm leave it on the rod rest here we go bang, the No 6 hook ended up hanging out of the back of my thumb and i am screaming on all foors in pain and my mate biff was also screeming with lafter. it took 6 cans of beer and fek now's how many spliffs to get that hook out the back of my thumb still got the scar T.F.K.

you cannot beat been by the water whilst stoned watching the lake and its diffrent moods throughout the day personally i love those misty dawns up at first light kettle on rolling a fatty love it !!!!

peppi you are not wrong.Especially when we are well into the summer and its gettin to around 7 oclock.
Sat there watching (sorry staring) at the tip or float thinking"did i have a bite then or not".Never want it to get dark on them kinda evenings.Helps me relax no end.

yes i love the light nights myself i live 2 minutes from a half decent lake (its at the bottom of the road )its home from work food then down the street to the lake ive fished pretty much all my life with most of my adult life spent after carp recently ive been trying for pike and have had loads of fun down the street with pike the lake is full of em
i stumbled upon them by chance catching a 32lbs pike on a boilie whilst after the carp so then i went and got some deadbaits trebles etc and give it a go ive found a spot with no visible features which produces bite after bite these usually come within a hour or two then it stops very strange best ive had intentonally is 22lbs which im most impressed with as soon as the film is full ill post the pics up ere

ive been carp fishing a south cerney gravel pit for 3 years with bream to 14 lb ,and only had them to 7lb 14oz.I think a big bream is one of the hardest fish to catch

If I was to class myself into one category it would be a bream open match angler.Ive been match fishing for years and love fishing for skimmers or slabs.
Anyway not far from us is a big country lake that you can buy a day ticket for.We were told that there were big bream in there but hardly any 10lb bream come out.Plenty of big carp,tench,and perch come out but not bream.
"7,8,9lbers,Ive had but not a ten in 4 years of fishing this place" I was told by a local.I'd always wanted a big un but on my very first visit got my fish which was weighed by a nearby bivvie basher.They couldnt believe it and neither could I.
I was as high as a kite for a couple of days.

theres a lake on the warrington anglers card that does double figure bream to carp anglers on a regular basis this lake is a biggy at 53 acres i personally i know someone who had 10 double figure bream in a session after the carp (this isnt no it was that big story either) these captures are by chance as the bream anglers just dont seem to have the success he does

on a more serious note rubbish and line left on the bank troubles me
where i live the local lake is full of kids i dont have a problem with kids(have two myself the boy fishes also with me)fishing its just that im tired of cleaning up after them it seems there parents just send them out fishing to get some quiet which is sad really coz when i learnt to fish i was taught by my father(=quality time with father)
whereas now there just sent fishing without a clue what there doing then you end up with tackle and line up trees etc etc just the other week myself and a mate had to catch a swan and remove a hook from its leg the size of the hook was unreal it had attached to it some kitchen foil i think it was meant to be a lure of some desciption

It gives us responsable anglers a bad name.
I thought us anglers were supposed to respect the enviroment not destroy it
I personaly make sure i take everything home with me as im sure most do
Its just a few BAD ANGLERS that wreck it for the rest of us

fished a lot of the cheshire meres myself ive had sessions on redesmere ,colemere (shropshire)sixes hole ,pettypool, new pool, grey mist, (good runs water)i mentioned bout big bream earlier in the thread they come from sandiway large lake yep we have some quality waters in cheshire most been hard places to catch from at the mo i concentrate my efforts on a local canal this has done a 32 mirror and a 35 common it aint easy but the fish are outa this world for a canal in the north west the said fish was in carp talk recently part of a multiple hit in january bbbbbbrrrrrrr!!!!!

that 22 common is a lovley fish for the cannal in the north west. i do more barbel fishing my self on the dane and the severn.but i like fishing for all spieces.but there is some thing about carp fishing in the summer on a deserted lake,big spliff in hand paradise

nice one peppi not been out since the rivers have closed. i roll my own bait when i have got the time i use john baker base mixs and adatives. there all natural human grade ingredents

yep i do something similar with bait myself i use quality baits stuff which we doctor with added fishmeal and various other additives this particular batch has the following

plum,peach,secret agent maple creme, nbutyric acid it seems to be working ok catching from the off cant be bad
wot we tend to do is blend all the additves then get a shedload of basemix usually a birdfood mix which we add some fishmeals to then we do a mega roll (250 300 eggs )usually works out bout £5 per kg at that price you can afford to throw some in !

ps if you use nbutric acid dont spill it in the house coz nothing smells like that smells its vile

there's border fisheries near crew .thats got a few different waters ,but if you get the angling times on tuesday they will give a list of on form fisheries in cheshire

will get the a t this week the lake down the road is full of lillies when its warm so i would rather not take the boy on there rekon he would loose more than he lands was thinking about cheshire fishing at tattenhall apparently its stuffed with small carp so he could catch from somewhere like that before i let him loose on the lake down the road

stinky meat paste and half a lobworm on the hook, loaded crystal waggler and some strong, 10lb-ish mainline, fished at the edge of the lillies on my local lake pulls out some belting tench

i might give the lad a blast on the float so he can get used to catching fish he has had several tench on the carp gear but this was recently when there was no lillies now there coming back and this lake is chocka block with them i get the carp out no prob with 3-5 rods and 20lbs braid i just dont want him damaging any of the carp coz they have been in this lake since it was made that was 30 years ago when they went in as fingerlings the key i find with weeded fish is to keep them moving if there stuck fast i put the rod back on the alarm and wait for them to free themselves

i used to end up standing about 15ft away down the bank away from the lillies so i can play the fish right away from them, otherwise the tangles were just irritating. aint done that fishing for a while now tbh, been more of a canal man meself. a nice day on the canal with my pole, a pint of pinkies and a coolbox full of beer is always a good way to relax for me

had some mega bream myself whilst fishing a lake called redesmere in the north its known as a carp water but holds some big fish of other species to but the bream have to be seen to be belevied i had one bout nine pound on the bank i was like that to me mate look at the size of this etc i geezer along the bank rekoned that it wasnt even a big one compared to the others

sucess! not the big dustpanlid bream i was after.....few skimmers/roach & perch...not one run on the carp rod to many kids chucking what seemed like 10lb swim feeders in with a weeks shoping inside! maybe try again tomoz when its a little more peaceful! tight lines!

Carp, Tench, Roach etc. Does anyone catch fish that you actually eat?

Well i prepared me pellets,got the pole gear sorted and then got a nice peg out of the wind.
Set up,and me and my mate who fished the feeder on the next peg cast out and that was the fookin good day ended for me.
I cupped 8 balls out with pellet lit a spliff in anticipation and the bastard wind changed.My pole turned into a fookin viper,it was all over the shop and to make things worse my mate was baggin.
I'd been sat there struggling for 4 hrs without a bite when another mate turned up for a chat.I was gettin cold by now so my mate says let me have a go while you get warm in the shelter.
He didnt even change the worm I had on and the bastard float sailed away and he got a bream.He gave me the pole back and fookin nothin.I did finally get 2 small hybrids and a perch.
I gave up after the perch and packed in cos a perch is usually the kiss of death on the res.When I left my mate had had 10 bream for around 30lb.
Ah well,roll on high pressure startin Monday and gettin rid of these bastard northerly's.

Has anyone tried fly fishing for pike? Great sport.
I do a lot of fly fishing for trout and salmon also. As I live close to the ocean I go sea fishing a lot, the mackerel will be in around the coast soon so I'm looking forward to that, not that you can call that fishing, it's just a case of casting out a rig of feathers and hauling them in five or six at a time.
I think that they are a very underestimated fish, taste wise. If eaten on the same day they are caught there is nothing compares to them in my opinion.
Good for the freezer also and they make great bait for, pike or deep sea fishing.
Has anyone got any good recipes for pike?

Stick with Bass "The King of Fish" coming up the channel soon so get those gills ready and motor out to the wrecks.

There is a way to fillet and bone pike that gets rid of most of the bones Rollem Up.

Mackrel fishing this summer on southends pier....a mile long be rude not to...light spinning rod with one feather attached....& bang they fight like mad or the beach cast loaded up with 12 feathers for the take home catch used to fish for trout all the time in scotland anyone ever gets the chance try the white cart in glasgow and the kelvin youll be pleasently surprised...and its free (the cart) think the kelvin beside the kelvin hall is a day ticket tho......tight lines ppl! s.e.t

i ate a jack pike once on the bank cooked on the fire on rod rests it was out of this world had them prepared proper at home nice but not as good as the rodrest one

Last time i cook Pike i made a Tomato Sauce with Onions,Garlic Oregano and Plumb Tomatoes, Cook onions with garlic then add herb and Tomato, Reduce(not boil) for about 25-30 mins. I cook the raw pike fillets which i cut up into cubes about 4inch, Actually in the sauce as i made it. Takes about 8-12 mins if done right!(Give it about 15-20 if not sure, The fish should be white and flaky and cooked all the way through) Be carefull as raw pike will end ya.

Nice Pike Provencal served with Fragrant Basmati Rice.

Though i must say i prefer Red Snapper to Pike with this dish. Also with this, drink a red Burgundy or a Pinot Noir.

what he really meens is a fish supper and a bottle of bucky! so you can really eat pike im sure years ago while fowl hooking one on the river lea in edmonton some little kids said its a delicsy in the jewish comunity? anyone know about this?

Yeah it is SET it the dish GEFILTE FISH, there are two kinds of gefilte fish. The strong and the weak. The weak are your standard fish which are in a loose "broth" (it is actually the lake water). Now the strong are special. They seem to be in a "jell". These fish are actually imported from the Middle East where they are caught in the Dead Sea. They have to be strong to be able to swim through that "jell".
