Hi Forum,

I've been studying up here for the past few months, great fun...

- the problem

HEAT!

I have 4x blue Envirolites hanging in my closet room (with a stand up fan),
measuring 4x3x6 feet....
They are putting out a lot more heat than I had expected, I had originally planned to leave the door shut, opening now and again to clear out the old air.... mmmm, that's not really working at the mo, The temps were up to 90f - not good for plants i hear.

The reason I went for Enviros was to save knocking any holes in my walls, for fans etc.

I am coming round to the idea of installing a ventilation system, which would allow me to keep the closet door closed most of the time. also would allow a HID system to be installed - which would be nice smile.gif

Stealth is of uber importance for this grow room, If I install fans they would have to be inaudible, and remove all traces of odour ( carbon). I can only cut a hole in the lower part of one wall (so the other side of the wall hole will be concealed by the fridge in my kitchen.

So My questions are :

Can you only have a fan exhaust, and no fan inlet ?

Could the system be completely silent ?

Will a hot air oulet be of any value placed close to the floor of my growroom ?

Would the output of a carbon filtered fan be completely odour free ?

How powerful a fan would i need for a small room like this ?

How are fans powered? ie, do I plug it?

Would love to hear anyone's ideas or guidance on this .......

thanks

Hiya mate,

I'm probably not experienced enough to give the best advice, but I've just had problems today with
my Envirolite. Check out the link in my signature for my first grow. So yes ventilation is neccesary

You will need and inlet and an outlet for the air and ideally the air will enter lower down and be vented higher up on the
opposite side so the plants get some air.

1. No (see above)

2. Not completely but pretty quiet -
hanging fans by bungees reduces vibration and in turn noise
You can get acoustic ducting
You can soundproof fans by putting them inboxes and stuffing foam about them
There are lots of ideas these are just some and all of them found on the UK420 forums so get searching!

3. I believe higher is standard, I'm no expert but I've done a lot of reading and it all says higher. Remember
heat rises and you want to expel the hot air.

4. I've bought one as I've read only good things, but I am yet to try it out.

5. I bought a s&p td160 100mm for my cabinet 2ftx1.5ftx4ft and although I haven't tried it I reckon it will
be more than enough, but again I haven't yet tried it. Ask me after this weekend!
And yes you wire them up and plug 'em in!

Hope I've helped in my own inexperienced way!

BTW Welcome to UK420

thanks for that Natporucnik,

Big help alright - -

I just have to get my head around putting holes in walls etc..

which I'm sure will be fun indeed - seeing as I am a DIY phobe.....

No worries mate, the best advice I can give is to search the forums before you commit yourself to any plans
you've got. Seriously search and search again 'cos I keep finding stuff I wish I had read before! 34.gif
As most people here are in much the same situation chances are there is somebody that has encountered
exactly the same problems you are having and may have found a good solution that saves either time or money.

I look forward to seeing how you get on, take some photos of where you intend to grow and post them on the forum.

All the best

1. No

2. Not 100% no

3. It could be if you extent the vent duct up to a higher point in the grow room. You could run the duct up the wall and secure it with gaffa tape.

This means the fan will need to work a little harder to shift the air through the ducting; perhaps increasing the noise from the fan and air moving through the duct. Or hang the fan a few inchs from the roof and allow the ducting to hang down.

4. Yes ! I have managed to run the same filter for about 15 months now. I'll replace it soon but you can’t smell a thing - as long as your room is airtight.

5. They plug in. I would also look at a fan speed controller. This will at least allow you to reduce the noise coming out of the fan. I use a 6" and when it's going full pelt it's pretty noisy. Sounds like you only need a 4" or 5" tops though.

Not too sure how you can get round the problem of getting air into the room. Modify the doors some how ?

Good luck thumbsup.gif I'm sure some one will be able to help !
