Full Version: What strain's are best for outdoors?

I was just wondering what strains people have found to work well outdoors, I've had a quick look around the site but haven't come across any obvious guides to good strains for using indoors/outdoors, perhaps one would be a useful addition to the site?

I am after a strain, which has an early harvest since scotland gets cooler sooner, will not grow too tall - so its easier to conceal and also doesn't need brilliant conditions!

Any suggestions!

Cheers.

No outdoors canna experience myself for you, but found this thread asking the same question. I hope it helps!

It would seem that anything with 'early' in the name is a fairly safe bet for you. wink.gif

Glad to see that you are taking our advice Tokemon, wouldn't want you to do all the hard work and then not get a crop because of the strain.

There are several good outdoor strains:

Biddy early is very popular,
I tend to stick to Dutch Passion's seed bank as they have a seperate range just for outdoors. This year however, one of the strains I am going to try is Rox as the write up is very favourable (if you can trust the breeders). This could be a good strain for yourself as it supposed to stay quite small, have a look at the write up;HERE

Hope this helps,

yeah mate, good luck for this year, i live in the far south west of england and have a similar problem to you! after about sep/october we get lots of light drizzling rain (the type to bring heavy dew/moisture onto your buds causing bud rot, however there are a few strains that flower really early, such as the sensi seedbanks ruderelis skunk or ruderelis indica, or as someone else said anything named early?
also i am trying something different this year to try and avoid the autumn winds and heavy rain, i have bought a 125watt blue spectrum envirolite?, customised a little cupboard which stands about 3 feet tall? i have a intake fan powered by batteries nt the mains and got a litttle hand held fan in the cupboard itself, i am going to germinate the seeds soon and then keep the babys on 24 hrs until the plants have reached about 2-3 feet tall, then i am going to transfer them outside in may or june to try and achieve healthy budding plants about 2-3 months before they would naturally flower, i have never tried this before so its just an experiment at this stage but if all goes well i will keep you posted good luck

Hi TKM;

There are plenty of Scottish growers here on the boards, and one or two of them specialise in outdoor growing so I'm sure one of them will be along to offer up some advice.

When you say outdoor, do you mean out in your garden, or out in the wilds?

If you plan to grow in your garden there are many ways you can counter the onset of winter, simply by implementing a system which allows you to move the plant into a dark space for the 12 hours of dark, such as growing in a big pot and moving the plant into a shed or similar for the "lights off" phase.

As for strains, do a search for "Biddy Early", "Early Girl", "Durbon Poison" etc as these are some of the more well known outdoor strains.

Failing that a strain with plenty of "Ruderallis" in the genes will start to flower when it's good and ready, using the light conditions as a deciding factor.

Don't let location be the deciding factor. You can grow outdoors wherever you are, it just takes a bit more thought in certain locations.

Whatever you choose, good luck with it! yinyang.gif

My 2 outdoor fav have been biddy early and holland's hope (got a lucky batch with the last one, mindblowing).
