Try shutting down, rebooting in safe mode (hold down F8 as it boots up to bring up the menu), then running the antivirus again. May not make any difference, but A/V software can't remove viruses from active components, safe mode only loads up very basic components so it gives the A/V software more access to files.

Looks like it's found the virus in a system restore folder - the anti virus software can't delete files from there as XP doesn't give it access.

Control Panel --> System --> System Restore Tab (top left).

Check the "Turn off system restore on all drives" box.

Click Apply.

Reboot, re-run the virus scanner on your whole system & it should work.

Oh yeah, I knew that... stoned.gif

I dont think that will work, its not in system restore. If I recall correctly
the 'javabyte verify' gets into the java virtual machine or something.
Its due to a weakness in the java virtual machine software. I think
there may be a patch or something.

The basic procedure to follow in the case of any virus which has been detected but cannot be healed is;

1. Turn off system restore (In XP right click "My compyter", click "properties", click on "system restore", put a tick in "turn off system restore on all drives", then click "ok".

2. Delete your temporary internet files by doing the following from within Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, General tab, Temporary Internet Files, Delete Files, Delete All Offline Content

3. Reboot into "safe mode"

4. Run an AV scan through your system

5. Reboot back to normal mode

6. Turn on system restore

This won't always work, but does in most cases.

I've had this myself and I was using Suns Java VM, I uninstalled the Java VM via Add/Remove Programs then downloaded and installed it again.

It can be downloaded from http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

That only applies if you have Suns Java VM installed, however it looks a neat way of clearing it which I didn't know about. thumbsup.gif

If this happens again all you need do is highlight it and then it'll give you the option to delete, saves all the chasing about.
