i wanna grow a big old "beanstalk"
and i have everthing ready but still a few questions such as
When you plant your "beans" should they be put under flouro light straight away or should they be kept in the dark until i see a shoot?
and
(My thermometer is very near my seed and is reading about 73degrees)
i know seventy is ideal but will a degree or two affect my "beans"? ???
should i try and lower it to 70?

Whilst your seeds are germinating and you are still waiting to see the first "pre-leaves" (those two small fingernail shaped leaves)...all you have is root really and that should be kept out of light. Plant this root into your medium (soil, coco, etc), pointy end down and make sure it is covered by about a seeds depth of soil...just a few millimetres really. Once you see the little lady (or fella) popping out of the soil...then he/she wants light. It wont harm to have the flouro on as the seedling tip will search for light. Just remember that the white part of the plant (root) wants to be kept in the dark.
If, on the other hand, the seedlings are kept away from light when they need it, they will become very spindly and tall as they search for it.
Don't worry about the 3 degrees :music: ... remember mother nature will throw in extreme temperatures at times and the strong will survive. Ideally you will want the strongest.
Personally, I find, if you treat a plant with too much molly-coddling it can become weak and dependant upon its grower...but if you let it go hardy you normally have better results.
Good luck maan...

i noticed you were swappin Durban Poison, and thats what has just been sown(i got them from dutch passion ,100% female).
I thought you could give me some cultivation hints and tips since you had probably already grown Durban Poison and found what worked best for that specific strain.
cheers m8
i have experimented with one seed already but i just popped it in (dont know which way) so i have a couple of days to see if i have sussed it (first time so i doubt it) here's hoping!! ??? also my friend gave me a plant already half grown but i am almost positive its a male, but not 100% (it has what looks like we bunches of bananas on it ) should i get it out of my grow room ? (will post pic as soon as webcam software is reinstalled)

Its a male ... get him out :0
Although it won't really make a difference because your female plants are too undeveloped (but pollen in the growroom isn't a good idea, especially if you use a fan) ....if you know the strain of the plant and its a good one then collect the pollen to cross with a female (this will come as you progress).
As for popping the seed in upside down, it only means the plant has to use energy to turn the root downwards. These are just the little PUFFER tips that can give your plant a bit of a headstart, thats all. :colgate:
Oh and congradulations...you are a few days closer to becoming self reliant.

i dont even know what a pollen sac looks like so i coudlnt say,
i had to move the plant for the picture and i only have a webcam so i cant get a decent resolution on the image.
i will get a pic scanned soon as

The 70W light would sort of explain the sparceness of the plant. He looks very spindly.
The pollen sacs are the male flower (the bananas to you). They hold pollen (male plant sperm) and this pollen will drop out of the sacs to carry on the wind.
Do you know the strain of plant ?
Is the pic of the top of the plant ?

i know what pollen is i just didnt know where it was held on a cannabis plant!i thought it was the "bananas"
it was under one flouro in my mates for about 5 months strugglin , i only put it under the 70 watt last week and the place its in is only big enough for one plant and the light ,so there is enough (2500)lumens per square foot now
it was deprived before i got it
i couldnt tell you the strain ,the guy i got it from isnt a experienced grower and gets his seeds from bags o' grass
its one of the side branches

I PUT A SEED IN A CONTAINER WITH SOME WET PAPER TOWELS YESTERDAY AND THERE IS A 3 MILLIMETRE WHITE ROOT SHOWIN ALREADY .WHAT TIME SHOULD I WHACK IT IN SOIL ? AND WILL A 4-1-1 MIX OF SOIL ,PERLITE AND VERMICULITE (IN THAT ORDER) BE SUFFICIENT AS I HAVE NO PEAT MOSS ,AND SHOULD IT BE QUITE LOOSLEY PACKED?

Wait until the white root is about 1 inch long and plant it with that root down. If you are germinating a few seeds, and you plant each one as it shoots, your garden herbs will all be at slightly different growth stages, the first will be more developed from the last basically.
Your growing mix will suffice nicely and it shouldn't be loose but
firm, watering your medium will firm it down, so just fill your container as you would a normal plant, try not to leave huge air gaps but don't force it in. Just follow your instincts maan...

i binned it yesterday ,i moved my 70 watt to my nursery which has a small area to cover 2ft high by a foot wide and a foot deep ,will this should be ok to bring up my little un's?(clone's and seeds) for the first two weeks of the light cycle (until ready for the main 400watt light) ,since its only 70 watts :colgate:

Good idea, the 70W will work well and you are starting to develop the roots of a good growroom

I would still try to keep the light about 12 inches away from the plant though and adjust with experimentation.
