just wondering as id need to buy some small bulbs for germination to small plant then whack hps for veg.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

yes you can keep your newly sprouted seed under 400w HSP providing you have the light hiegh enough not to burn em to a crisp.

2' - 3 ' high above them. smoke.gif

if you are using a 400w HPS for seedlings make sure that you dont have the light too far away either coz they will stretch and become very lanky

Used 400w HPS on my Sensi Star throughout. Awesome yield, take a look. Shame I only got one lady, but she was a beaut.
Might go all the way again on HPS as did not get the best out of the MH/vegging and HPS/flowering on the last grow.

I've had 3 day old seedlings under a 400W and they loved it! The lamp was about 3' off 'em and they didn't stretch at all. smile.gif

Forgot to add that I used a heat dissipator under the bulb so that I could get higher light intensity without the heat problems when they first germed.
Had the bulb about 12" above canopy with this for the first couple of weeks of 18/6 then dispensed with dissipator and raised the bulb/reflector unit to about 18" above canopy. Never experienced any burning.
One thing I would advise against though is over misting after lights out. I had a minor problem when I over misted once and the leaves took on a peppered yellowing as the water had not been absorbed during the dark phase and the water droplets remaining at lights on acted as mini magnifying glasses and spot burnt the leaves.

3 inches seems a little close, I use a 400W HPS but keep it a good foot above the plants throughout. But spot on about not too far away, used to keep it 18 inches away and they sretched like they'd been put on a rack, but the plants I'm vegging now are 12 inches under the lamp and are the best I've grown, short & compact with massive leaves already. Put them straight under as soon as they'd germed.

Edited to add & yep, lovely plant there embalmer, hope mine look half as good as that.
