Ok, here's my situation:

I've got the perfect location for an outdoor grow (as good as it gets in scotland at any rate).....my friend has given me the green-light to grow some plants on his land. It's a great spot.....it will get all the sunshine that it's possible to get, holes excavated with a JCB and filled with all the good stuff, no wind or animal problems......it's a great location.

Right now, I have 5 durban poison plants growing under 220 watts of fluoros...they are looking really good but haven't shown sex yet (about 4 weeks)

I also have a pack of 10 seeds of hollands hope.

What should I do?........should i wait until the durbans show sex and take clones?..(they're getting big now)......or would i be better to grow them indoors and go with the HH for outdoors from seed?......or what?

All help greatly appreciated!!

definatley get the HH germed mate. seeing as your in scotland it would be a good contingency plane to have them becuase the Durban poison has Sativa traits would may increase the flowering time and Sativas are more prone to mould while HH is very mould resistent.

good luck mate and hapy growing

Thanks for the replies lads thumbsup.gif

MDP, I hear what you're saying mate, but the area I'm going to be using isn't all that big, plus I told my mate that it would only be a 'few' plants!.......stealth isn't that big an issue, so I'd rather grow 4-6 'monsters' if possible. I've read that plants grown from seed are hardier than clones, and, let's face it, they're gonna have to be pretty tough to handle our climate!

Highest Grade, yes, I wondered about that myself, but I've heard of a few success stories with DP in our climate, so my first thought was to go with that one.......have you experience with both strains HG?

The grow will be pretty simple......dig a big hole, fill it with the same stuff as I use for my indoor grows (magi-grow compost, fish blood and bone meal, worm-castings and perlite) bang in the plants, and let them do their thing. I'll be feeding them 'Maxi-Crop' seaweed extract and Maxi-Crop flower-food.

How long do you think it will take for my Durbans to show sex?

Now that I've made my growing situation a bit clearer, feel free to offer me any further advice as you see fit.......like I say, it's my first attempt at this.

*scuttles off to germ pack of HH* wink.gif

Before digging holes, you might want to read what OT says here

Thanks for that hairy face thumbsup.gif

Some great info on there from OT......I have decided to scrap my original plan, and do the grow using giant-sized pots instead.
It will be less hassle this way also......digging the hole with a JCB would have involved dismantling and re-erecting part of a fence to gain access 34.gif

It's early days, but I plan to grow 3 DP clones (providing I get a female from the 5 that I have!) and 3 HH from seed (9/10 germed, and a few of them are already breaking the surface)

I'm really looking forward to this adventure, but I've no doubt that my inexperience, combined with the Scottish weather, will make it difficult for me to get a result.

I'll update with pics when I get my camera problem sorted out.

I don't know how to get in touch but there has been some contact between this site and a russian site recently. One thread was saying because of vast expanses of open space a lot of growing was done outside. The ruskies should be able to help a lot with growing hardy strains in northern climes. Look back over past weeks posts.
