Got myself a 70 L bag of westland organic < @£4 ! >
to do some side by side trials against AllMix .
The westland appears pretty heavy and damp generally. Thinking of adding some perlite, may try a few plants mixing the westland with wormest and premix - If anyone has any such successful recipes to share i'd love to hear about it.

tassili what is it called exactly, the westland site do not list any organic compost, any chance of a picture of the bag?

Try gardenhealth.com theres an organic section on it.

Thanks ghengas, as I said they do not list any organic compost for planting in. The only organic compost they sell is made as a garden soil mulch, not for potting.

Thanks Vlad it used to be on Westlands site, they removed the organic mp late autumn and started recommending the peat free + JI in the organic section and that is not organic!

I suspect, but could be wrong, that the organic mp people are buying now is old stock from an obsolete product line.

Iknow its an old thread but i been using this this year, got it from the local poundshop, still got a few bags left.
My question is how long can you keep bagged comp, does it go off.
Reading this thread made me think. Had good results this year tho

I am not sure how long westlands will last before going off, other organic mixes have a shelf life of as little as a couple of months tho.

Altho i am tempted to say that the peat free mixes as a rule could do with being kept standing round to let the wood they consist of rot down a bit more but that isnt the case in reality I dont think.

During the thread ot1 said he thought it was a discontinued line, that was a year ago , perhaps thats why it was in the poundshop , cos it was cheap i brought a few extra bags to do for again. I have to travel to get organic normally.

Well, i ended up using most of what i had on my tomatoes ( no really )
-& they tasted just fine. I've since gone back to using BB allmix , mainly cos it's easy
sometimes i mix in some 'thatchers super mix' another supposedly organic compost i found
which comes in pretty cheap and has a more satisfactory ( to my senses ) texture
(the westland, imo tended to be pretty wet and clumpy )

I was down the local h/base the other day and I spotted big bags of Westland organic mp. These haven't been stocked there before and are in different packaging to the pics posted in this thread (orangey iirc).

Might grab a bag tomorrow and check it out.

I bought some bags of that Westland organic veg compost this summer and grew tomatoes in it with amazing results... I am sure you could grow canna in it, but I haven't tried
