When using JI seedling compost does anything else need to be added to it for use from seed
If that makes sense

aye water

, no seriously... i`d probly add some perlite and vermerculite to aireate the seedling compost and to add better drainage/retention properties as ji1 can be a bit of a pain if it sets solid

CAREFUL watering
I've just killed 3 nebula (just split) by turning the JI into concrete with too much water too fast, and I've bloody used it before so knew the risks D'OH

My JI#1 turned to concrete too even with careful watering, its also got sod all nutes in it so you`ll need to transplant into something (I used B&Q organic compost) after 2 weeks (I left it 3 weeks and the plants yellowed like crazy)

It's probably got less of that sandy type mixture that they put in

How do you find it on the nute side, strong or weak?
I'm off to the garden centre in a mo will have a look out for it...

From when I've used it (didn't have any #1 on hand to compare) it seemed a bit finer than the #1 - I think (though this is just a guess) it's got less nutes again than #1, but I could be making that up.

Nope Boo that sounds about right, there's just enough nutes to keep seedlings/cuts going for about 2 wks......

It is ji seedling compost i have and not no 1 i was glad raz pointed out it was different because i was wondering myself
So were looking at about 2 weeks before i repot because it only contains nutes to last this long or it contains no nutes at all.
And be very carefull not to water to much because it goes hard(thats sounds a bit pervy dont it)

A little bit off topic, but I use JI no 3, but only for fairly mature plants. It's too strong for seeds/seedlings. Found it first class. The so called "concreting" is just a surface skin and can easily be broken up with fingers. It is heavy to lift, but that's because it contains grit for drainage, so additional perlite can be reduced.
