You can't really tell because of the angle of the shot, but the fan and filter span the box,s roof diagonally. There's space for the ballast in the corner.

I'm posting this in the hope that it will help some noobs in their planning. I originally had my carbon filter connected to the push-end of my fan! 34.gif What you see now is the air being sucked through the filter (which looks strange coz it's lacking the white cover they come with), the fan, and out the back right corner. The fan creates a bit of noise out the exit port, but this can be controlled by adding a length of padded/soundproofed ducting as the last stage.

Thats a neat little system. Plants are looking very healthy so its obvioulsy a nice environment for them.

Be great to see how those plants progress. What are you growing?

Anyway good luck with it all. stoned.gif

looking good - but if you find you have any noise transmitting to the cupboard body, it'll help to replace the chains round the filter with bungees! smoke.gif

Hi folks and thanks for the kind words!

Those plants are my own f2's from my favourite strains (African seeds from plant my mum grew for me - don't ask!/Spice of life/ Black domina) and they're just plonked in plain old john innes no.3.

I've now replaced the 250 wtt light with a 400 watt light and i have high hopes for it!

Vlad, I'm not getting any vibrations since the filter is not fast-clamped to the fan but connected with a short piece of padded ducting. As you can see the fan is suspended from bungees, it does work very well. Another soundprofing plus is I made the box ouot of 18mm chipboard all round, so apart from being extremely heavy, there's no noise outside except the soft woosh that sounds like a house airconditioning unit.

Good grows, I'll update this with the plant pics for l.g.virgin.

Looks fine Simak 420.... But why did you remove the cover (the particulate filter)?
Simak 420
Thanks for the kind words formabud, the only thing wrong is those plants are in 5 litre pots. I'll never do that again, probably coz I'm going to hydro wink.gif The lamp has now been changed to a 400 watter but I don't think the girls will benefit much from it in those little pots, maybe if I give them some flowering feed to make up for it... every third watering or so.

Hello nigfis. The cover for the CF was just so filthy after a year's use that I chucked it away... to be frank I'd rather have the fluff and stuff that gets caught in it vented out instead of collecting and dropping on my plants when I sneeze!

Have green fingers bud buddies! smile.gif
Mr. Bassie
The prefilter is important it stops large particles clogging the carbon which reduces the lifespan alot, if its dirty you can just throw them in the washing machine comes out like new.
Simak 420
Hmmm, didn't know that. I'll get a new one when I have it refilled. So far have been using this one for over a year and it's still 100% effective.

Here's the picture I promised. This is two weeks later, under a 400 watt lamp.

You can get the white filter material from the packs of 'cut-to-size' cookerhood material!
Just cut it & use velcro to join it up!

nope, it's a 4-er. 10cm pushes 175m3 i think. probably just looks bigger coz it's got that sonoduct padding around the ducts.

ya the 400 is much friendlier than i thought it would be and not too hot at all. the plants love it.
