i got a poo monitor atm, so its on 640x480, any higher gives me a headache, regardless of refresh rate. but even on good monitors (& gfx cards) i usually keep to 800x600 or below, dunno why - just looks better & doesnt make my forehead wanna explode 34.gif

whats your resolution ?

jeez i ask some tedious questions bag.gif
Mush

1280 x 1024 @ 72Hz refresh.

If the monitor is giving you a sore head at any resolutions and refresh i would say try to get hold of a new one ! Might be doing your eyes in mate pinch.gif

1280 x 1024 @75Hz
Dohped
everything is huge, 800 x 600 i think

if i have it on 1024 then everything wobbles, and i feel miles away from the screen.
mickle
1280 x 1024 @85Hz

I used to have it at 1600x1200 but it was a bit hard to read.
Joolz
1024 x 768 on a 17" screen @85Hz

I need a new monitor but the flat skinny ones cost a packet sad.gif
WeedyOne
19" 1280 x 1024 @ 85hz 32bit colour CRT.

I'd like to try one of the new fangled flat panel screens, but they are £££ and I'm not sure about the reliability - I know users who have pixel drop outs on quite new screens.

I've used them for a couple of years at work and thought the definition on them was crap. Mostly noticable on things like fonts, a bit fuzzy round the edges and loved getting back home to my old CRT which was a lot crisper.

However, just been given a one of DELLs new 20" TFT's to use at work, it has the normal analog input and one of these new digital inputs. Via the analog input it's not bad, but fantastic through the digital input at 1600 x 1200, as good as if not better than a CRT. I'm converted now, the best TFT I've used although it is nearly £500. 34.gif

Home resolution is 1024 x 768. smile.gif

Its for watching films etc on your big telly.

My monitor is 22" (20" viewable though!) so i watching films on it is ok, I would rather sit on the sofa though.

I know finances are tight but its amazing how many people skimp on monitors and spend money on other bits of their comp. I think since we spend all our computer time staring at it its worth getting a good one and it also will date slower than the rest.

The Keyboard is also important - I want a decent keyboard sometime, this one is ok (microsoft standard one) but it has fancy buttons on that take up space and I never use. I'd like a clicky one with full microswitches and everything.

thumbsup.gif Your sitting looking at it from day one and usually take it onto your second PC if it still works. I would rather run a slower spec PC but have a better quality monitor. 4 years i have had mine and its only about £50 cheaper now.

I find mice usually die on me. Recently been using an optical though so there's nothing to get gummed up or clog. You just need to keep your mouse mat bump free whistling.gif

I loved those things, the original IBM built like a tank with a metal case jobbies. Apparently you can still get them at computer fairs and I understand their prices are going up.
mickle
We used to have them on IBM terminals at work, keys were bigger so less chance of hitting two at once, had 24 function keys and the keyboard had built in macro recording abilities.

The kb connector wasnt ps/2 though or I would have taken one home when they were all being junked.

My monitor was £650 when I bought it, 22" trinitron. Cost a packet yes but I think this is my third computer that I am using it on.

I dont think I'll switch to LCD until they have zero defective pixels and I can get an equivalent sized one at a decent price (oh and until I get a job lol.gif ).

AT 5 pin din to ps/2 6 pin adaptors are available so we can carry on using classic keyboards.

Thanks but I dont think they were AT connectors either (I might be wrong though). They went into a 3270 dumb terminal.

1024 x 768 100 Mhz forced

19 " Lg Flatron excellent! 13.gif

and soo cheap now compared to when I first bought my first crappy 16" monitor

If your a gamer unless U got pots of money to spend on a top end screen forget it, they are not fast enought to game competetively with.

RJ11 was the keyboard connector of choice on those terminals.

Monitor res - 1280x1024 @85MHz.
