Hi my original plan was to make some kind of teepee with black/white/black in the loft .. and install a hydroponics dutch dripper system ..lots of room up there ..

However due to some work been done to the house in the near furture which would involve intruders to the loft ive had to leave that idea ..

Now in my bedroom we have a *over the stairs* cupboard ... the door is approx 3 feet of the floor and the dimentions inside are approx .. 3 foot wide ..3 1/2 foot deep .. and approx 4 feet hight .... (maybe slightly bigger ... i cant find the tape measure!)

So the question is, is this going to be high enough for my grow? .. there is no prob with extraction .. as this will be going straight to an outside vent which is a matter of inches away from the cupboard door ...

also ive set my heart on hydroponics so can anyone recommend a system that wouldnt be too big ..

The smallest NFT you can get should be able to fit in there. Alternatively, you could try an AquaFarm/WaterFarm or 2.

Hi Rochy

Sounds like a beaut of a cupboard.

You could easily get away with a 400w in there or even a 600w...not forgetting you would need adequate ventilation, probably at least a 5'' RVK or better still a 6''.

As regards your hydro system....if hieght becomes a problem, which it may do especially if you are growing out seeds without any knowledge of how they stretch on flowering, you could maybe go for a passive system.

I would recommend using either rockwool slabs or pots with cellmax which is small cubes of rockwool.

Plus, this way IMO, you it will be easier to pull out the males as they show themselves.

Also, it is a good and cheap way to introduce yourself to the principals of hydro and instead of spending your cash on a system, you could spend it on getting a pH meter and a CF truncheon.

Anyway,

best of luck

Chips right about the cf truncheon and ph meter, dont try doing hydro without them.

That space may be ideal for an enviro scrog grow, if you put a 400w or 600w in the GR you will defintley need a big extractor, like chip sayd 5" or 6" should do.
But if you go with a enviro you will find it a lot easier to manage the temps.

Good luck rochy wink.gif .

hello m8,

i have the same space but mine is still just a shelf in my spare room.

it is perfect for growing in as there is no crouching down, the floor is plenty big enough.

you cant go for a 400w or a 600w, as the headroom you have needs another 2 ft to deal with the light and the distance it has to be away from the plant tops to prevent scorching.

imo use enviro's, if you are using an NFT 205 for instance 1 / 2 lights will be plenty, all you need to do is use them wisely and block of unused space in the growroom by hanging reflective plastic curtains.

if you have a big fat fan aircooling a HPS then it would be possible imo, but it is more hassle by the looks of it.

the money you save on not having a HPS is what you will spend on the truncheon and other associated necessities.

good luck m8

i am using perlite for all of my passive hydro, it's cheap and you just use that instead of soil.

Many thanks to you all for your input!

I think regarding the lite i will deffo take the advice and get envirolites .. then if growing gets out of hand i dont need to worry about the poor beggers getting burnt!

Ive had a quick look and see that they come in blue and red spectrum .. so i will need 2 of each? or is there one that does both veg and flower stage? .. also what would be the best way to hook these lites up? to i need a canopy ? or would fitting out the cupboard in total black/white or mylex(spelling) be enough ..

I take it i would still need an extractor fan for my plants but guessing i can get away with something a little smaller than for hps?

I think also the advice on ntf 205 system/rockwool would be best for size..

thanks again for the advice, will hopefully get everything i need ordered this weekend biggrin.gif inc the cf trunceon!
