I'm looking for spots ready for next year but need to know how often I'd need to visit the site so I don't venture too far from home if I need to check quite often.Thanks.

Hi Turlock, welcome. I try to visit as little as poss'. It only draws attention to the site. I'd prepare, then visit once to plant and feed, visit second time to feed for flowering, then again to harvest. Less is best.

Good luck Turlock, I'll also scouting about over the next few months with my trusty OS map to identify suitable sites for next year.
Can't wait.

Yep, good luck Turlock and anyone else planning for next year. Loads of info in 'outdoor growing, guerrilla' forums.

I should have added that it also depends when you plant out, earlier means an extra visit or two. Say you've planted out in mid- May, first visit to plant and feed, second visit to feed end-June, third visit mid -Aug and last visit chop. This is on basis of using slow release ferts with 6wk intervals between feeds, if using 'vitax Q4' ferts for flowering they're only really good for 3 or 4 wks so you might want to visit twice over flowering period but they're good ferts.
Main rule though is still visit as little as poss'.

I agree with this 100% and would suggest that when searching for suitable sites, you take into account the soil drainage.
Not enough and the plants will not thrive.
Too much and you'll have to visit to often to give water. (therefore leaving the telltale path).
