Full Version: Reporting Hackers

You can report potential hackers by getting their IP's from your firewall & go to http://www.dnsstuff.com/ & put their IP into the box marked "IPWHOIS Lookup" & press the whois button.

When you have done that, you should be on a page giving details of their connection. You can at this point get their ISP's email address.

Write an email to them abuse@blahblah.com explaining the time, date of the attack & the email address or even better, attach the log of the attack from your firewall to the email.

Hope this helps everyone here

Any hacker with half a brain will not be using his own machine and IP, it'll be spoofed, redirected through a third party or coming through a proxy.

The only plebs you'll track this way are thicko script kiddies on their summer holidays or people with infected/compromised machines polling others.

Way too much paranoia on here. smile.gif

If it removes 1 idiot per year then this is worth doing!

I'm afraid it won't mate, how many script kiddies and compromised machines do you think your average ISP gets reported to them each day?

More than they can cope with I'm afraid.

yep

At least one ISP (BT) takes no action against reported users running port scans. I wouldnt be surprised if they all ignore them bar actual proof you have been actively hacked.

The best thing to do is configure your firewall to not bother telling you about incoming probes and relax smile.gif

It is a shame you look at it like that

Yes they will receive more abuse emails than they can cope with, but at least a certain percentage will be looked at.

I say report it & then I feel that I may have helped rid a problem that is disrupting good people's surfing.

Attacks on home users do not get taken seriously or get looked at.

Call it industry experience mate. wink.gif

As I said, its a shame you look like that even worse for one with "industry experience".
I was "in the industry" for some time & I investigated more than my fair share of these attacks & no differencial was made between commercial or home use.

Anyway, back to the more important thing of getting stoned! I started this link off to educate people in some form of action that they can take, not to have an argument... not my idea of fun!
