Just in case i buy one unnecessarily, has this light got a ballast built into the bottom section? Its different from my other lights and i'm not entirely sure how to get it going. Anyone?
Mongoloid
What? No-one else has one of these? huh.gif

cowboy.gif Ohhhhhhhhkay.I'll just set about it with the ol' screwdriver, if i'm not back here soon, and you smell burning, innocent.gif I'll have gone to a better place.

This lady needs to be put under a light, and soon.

only in an antique shop wink.gif

Your correct about the ballast, its in the end compartment.
Most people remote them because of the heat issue wink.gif

i think theres a thread here somewhere that shows you how, or maybe it has removed because of the chance of newly fried growers trying to sue us because they did it wrong pinch.gif

whats the problem with the light? aint it working or does it need wiring up?
Mongoloid
I wired it up, and tried it without a ballast....no joy. Then i tried it with a 1000w ballast, again no joy. Tried it with another 250w bulb too, still nowt. I did see it working before, but the lad who gave me it isn't around to ask how.

Pretty sure i've wired it up right though...... cowboy.gif

what size lamp is it? if its 250w then best to use a 250w ballast, thers normally a circuit diagram on the top of the ballast units
Mongoloid
It's a 250 lamp.Thing is, I was wondering if i could change the bulb for one of those enviro doo-dahs, would i still need a ballast? I'm already needing to get at least a couple of 600w units for my flowering room, and my incapacity benefit is stretched to the limit as it is. 49.gif

Enviros come with the ballasts attached. Why are you trying your 250w lamp with a 1000w ballast? Use the same wattage rating for the ballast as the bulb has.

rolleyes.gif Its what i had lying around, I'm on a budget. Ideally I would've just gone out and bought a ballast, but,i'm looking for a cheaper option?

If you want to go cheap and u have some electrical knowhow, you might want to try Building you own ballast. It is definatly cheaper, if you know where to get the bits.
Mongoloid
blushing.gif It all looks a bit too much like hard work that does. Changing a fuse or maybe a lead, i can manage, but that....... 31.gif is a recipe for disaster in my hands.

heres another.......
