Can anyone tell me if soap bar is just a local uk term or what and how can you tell soap bar from hard morrocan or other quality imports, other than smoking it or burning it. By which time you ve usually boughht it.  

its usually very very hard, rock solid. Oh, big lumps of plastic too!!

yep, I'd say the hardness is the most telling sign. Good hash can be broken up easily with your hands without heating. Of course you could take a microscope round to your dealers and start inspecting his produce under that but some may not take too kindly.......

Soap bar is full of shit and if its hard as rock well its shit, hash/s are all soft and like crubble or pull apart like wet toffee and thats the one i like lol

Don't buy rock-hard stuff, or samples that give off a dark acrid smoke when burned.

Cutting through a block of resin should expose a brown coloured surface (including if you have black hash) and it should fluff up when heated and be easy to powder with just a little flaming.

The smell of pure hash smoke is also very distinctive in its own right, learn what to sniff for!

also if youi smoke it neat in a pipe you should be left with a clean looking white ash in the bottom of the bowl

IME Soap Bar has only become a totally derogatory term in recent years.

When I started smoking 16 years ago SB just meant any hash that had been pressed into a qtr lb (9oz) block the shape of a bar of soap and film coated by machine.

You still find high quality hash imported in this form and I'd call it SB.

A lot of hashes are pressed into 250g blocks - 8.8 oz., rounded up by dealers to 9 oz.

A 1/4 pound is 8 ounces, not 9 (227/28.35=8).

doh, the troubles of working in both metric and imperial whilst stoned for many years

a 1/4 lb is of course 4ozs - i meant 1/4 weight, 8.8oz is 0.2495 of a kilo

i always remember the smaller weights (1/8=3.5g--14/7g...)
but i get iffy on an oz because its not excactly 28g(or whatever they call it) and cookery books are even more confusing! they usually round it down to 25g  

I agree with icanebud, around here soap bar usually means soft/good stuff, the other is slate or rockie,cos it's hard as rocks & is best avoided as it's got so little hash & so much crap in it.
On that point a guy much more in the know than me,a dealer of vast quant's, told me ages ago that a popular way to thin good hash out to double or treble profits was simply mix good soft black with PUTTY thats why it goes hard & paler & stinks! He could have been winding but i don't think so he's not known for his humour!

The slate i remember about 10 year ago was just that in appearance slate..It had a greeny/brown colour to it & once you warmed it up slightly,it would fluff up to twice the normal size & fill a king skin just lovely.Wasn't a head fuck of a smoke,but was pleasant enough. Whatever happened to slate?  

still get roofing tiles of various qualities around here Mr B, although it's more yer polm and other exotics at bud prices

It's a compression of the resin glands that have been seperated from the rest of the plant matter by dry seiving through differing grades....Maroc, Lebanon, Turk hash use these techniques....

The best polm is very clean, few contaminants or plant matter....fantastic smoke, sounds like your mate got hold of the good stuff....
