look's good m8 but meybe you should put up some reflect a grow or myler or something like that it would make it more reflective and bounce the lunmens about more makeing the most of the 250w it would make it bit hoter but it sound's like you got the fan's to cool it down...
(more light more lunmens and more lunmens more bud)
i think...?
hope this help's

like i say i put them in last night and went to the pub with my girlfriend babysitting. its a shame she didnt tell me last night that she saw some brown/yellow/curling of leaves as she sleeps in and i get up at 6 to turn the lights on. 3 hours latter she tells me!!!
anyway they were pretty dry and the lamp just a few inches from the top of the canopy. gave them a water, put some white card on the pots (cos ive seen it in photos and assume its to reflect light and stop the soil from drying out) and lifted the lamp 9 inches from the plants, slowly slowly me thinks.
now its pretty warm in there if my argos purchased hygrowmeter works properly. 30 centigrade with 40% humidity and it must be said its a pretty cool day. got the door slightly ajar but dont think it helps.
so how am i doing? they look quite good apart from this example and a few burnt tips. when can i start to introdouce nutes?
thanks in advance for all help

Once you start to drop the light closer you might want to think how tall your girls are going to grow 'cause of penetration. Could start off 1/4 nutes.

not too proud of the lash up wiring job. its safe enough till i get some double sockets put in. notice ive got a smoke alarm

and done the bungee thing with the extractor fan

ive also got a small flouro auxilary lamp (not for growing).
you'll see that i just have a small amount of ducting coming of my extractor. is this ok or should i bring it lower to nearer the lamp and plants?

another lousy day on the window sill so have put the 9th plant in there. full house now.
BushBandicoot
Jun 27 2004, 07:29 PM
It all looks great. You've got near 60w/sqft there but the light can only penetrate effectively so far, about 2.5ft , I think. How were you thinking of growing your plants, kinda SOG or small tree? Only if you were growing larger/taller plants would penetration be a problem. Your 250's perfect for the size.

bush mate i thought i'd done my homework (must try harder

)
what are the rules about penetration and what are my options on this grow? i hadn't really thought of it. currently have the lamp 9inches off the plants as although they are 5 weeks old its day one under lights and ive already managed to burn them!. just thought that id let em grow as tall as they like as height isnt really an issue. is the right approach or would i be better off scrog or small tree like you ask? cheers

They are looking good, very nice.

9" away is fine as long as you've tested it with the back of your hand. What I'd be tempted to do is pinch out the growing tip on each plant fairly soon, it's not too crowded in there just now and if you pinch out you should have a fairly even canopy loaded in growing tips. By the look of things you could do that and go 12/12 when they're all about 12" tall, maybe just under. Your 250 is good for about 2.5ft but it not really relevant if you grow like that. It's kinda SOG but loads of other folks here will know better the ins and outs of different styles of growing best suited for you.

going back to your ducting query- you should be extracting from the highest point in the growroom - as near the "ceiling" as you can get, so you'd be better off either removing the ducting completely from the inlet side, or bending it upwards to suck the air from the very top of the grow space - hot air will "pool" above the exhaust, and cause your temperatures to soar!

Jul 4 2004, 10:57 AM
thanks for that vlad. in that case im thinking that i will attach my soon to be built diy carbon filter straight on to my extractor. initialy i put some ducting on to stop light entering the gr, which it didn't! i hope that the carbon filter does that and by removing the ducting what i lose on draw from the filter will not be so so bad.
thanks again.
elzaar i hope your right

Well from my limited experience - i have only ever grown with natural light - but the large shade leaves at the base of the plant do eventually go yellow and look pretty dead...rest of the plant should be fine tho'. I think it's just a naturally occuring thing.

finally got round to some much needed improvements to my gr. wasn't at all happy bout the wiring arrangement so have fitted some double sockets which will make it easy to isolate individual bits of kit. also wired up my contactor which is probably capable of handling the load of the block of flats. gives a satisfying clunk when it kicks in. anyway it cost me didly squat so im happy with it

well they still growing. at 18-20inches and finnaly got the courage to top them hoping this slows down the top and helps them bush out. elsewhere ive had a disaster as far as carbon filter building goes
disaster area keep clear oh well everything else is better than my expectations just waiting for them to mature a bit. they got preflowers but i need to get myself a magnyfying glass to tell better. but they the branches haven't started to alternate and its so many weeks already vegging. wait a little longer i guess

cheers contico. 12/12 is nigh at last. idealy would have done so sooner but was away at womad last weekend and have been increasing light out time since. i keep looking at the preflowers and am about 50% certain that i got at least 4 girls out of the 9 which will do me fine. hopefully i'll know soon cos i cant repot till then as there isn't enough room

im not liking that 90o bend on your pan connector though very restrictive

know what your saying contico about the bend but way i see it im gonna have at least one bend on it anyway. still havn't actually made filter though as im concerned about getting as much surface area as poss. not much action on the drawing board either

idea from materials at work and i think it was paradoxdevil who has a thousand ideas for carbon filters. really chuffed cos what with ahem! a certain football match - easy! in the east end of london to get over i needed a positive to finish the weekend

of course its to be seen if it removes smell -cant see why it wont - it pulls pretty much the same which was my main concern. anyway more filter pics later for now i got something else to show you
