Hi All, First crop going well under 600w aircooled supernova sodium, ready to start a new crop from cuttings, question is, which single light would best suit from clones into veg and also keep a couple of bonsai mums happy before going under 600w sodium at about 10" for scrog.

Trying to keep the total number of lights down to a minimum as i'm about to add another 600w and don't fancy 4 lights running at once (nightmare with cables/contactors/timers etc....) the more responses the better, (would a 125w blue enviro really satisfy my needs to do all?)

Yup an Enviro or 2 would work a treat wink.gif ............

Yeah, that'd be ideal for taking clones under that and growing them to a moderate size in veg. Remember that you'll likely have to compensate for the different lights heat and intensity a bit when you transfer them to the 600w, and you should do fine.

We've only just begun to get the envirolights down under now, and it's been a long time coming. But that's what you get for living in the most isolated capital city on the planet. rolleyes.gif

But yeah, a good fluoro should do wonders. I grow my mothers, cuttings and sometimes seedlings under a 28w cool white (5000k I think...)compact fluoro and do my main veging and flowering under a 430w, and get great results. Well, I like to think so anyway. biggrin.gif

Hope that helps.

flouros are best money wise, new tubes cost next nothing. but you wouldnt get away with using just one, you would need at least two side by side, maybe more (still cheap though)

enviros are popular, but when the bulb needs replacing you need to fork out another £40 for a new one. you may need more than one depending on how many plants you intend to grow

for a single light, id say get a 250w lowbay sodium light (£50 from screwfix direct) and put a 250w halide bulb in it (about £35) that would cover just under a square metre i reckon

as for timers, you dont need them for veg, plug strait into the wall and give them 24hr light, they will grow a bit faster too

I think a £5 difference is well worth it, I used a 250w but now us just Enviro's.
And the difference is staggering, can't reccomend them enough for vegging.
Plus you don't need to go out and spend money on a extractor, which you would if you put a 250 in there.
Take it easy

spliff.gif Cheers for the replies guys, After speaking to my local hydro man today I think i'm going to go for a 400w mh, the guy reckons that The enviro just won't get the nodes tight enough together for some real big tight buds as its something like 9500 lumens compared to 70000, just the heat thats putting me off as i'm allready fighting temps with my 600w hps, anybody else care to chip in before I spend my hard earned? all replies appreciated ( even downright dumb ones!)

Cheers Woody

P.S. Ugly cheers for the fremantle tip but I live Newcastle (The Toon) bit far for postage........

the guy is chatting shit to get more money out of you, besides a 250 mh should be plenty anyway

plants do not need as much light during veg, its the light during flower that gives your fat tight buds

if you are having heat probs, flouros or enviros are the best way really

just dont listen to what they tell you in hydro shops, make out that you know your stuff so they dont try and pull one over on you

a few weeks ago, a bloke in the hydro shop near me tried telling me i should add formulex to ALL my plants once a week, because it contains all the minerals plants need. BULLSHIT, its basically a std nutrient, but watered down. what a wanker mad.gif

the same guy told my mate he should buy this "special" insulation foil to stop helicopters from finding his tiny little grow whistling.gif

dont trust a word they say

hahahahha tin foil for helicopters lmfao id have slapped him and said wake up my son!!!!

id go fluros for cuttings as u can get them close to the clones as in nearly touching

dont thin u can amost touch the leafs with an enviro ?

enviros will do a good job of vegging tho

but hps and metal halide are essential for me wink.gif

although i use cool white fluros in my clone box
