ive read up on loads of ways to make hash, and being a cheap skate (and a poor one at that!!) i wanted to make it as cheap as possible (free)

anyways, heres what you need

> a large glass bowl, the deeper the better (one you are allowed to stick tape to)
> a jar or something (to act as a cocktail shaker)
> a pair of tights (or that mesh stuff if you have it)
> lots of ice (at LEAST two trays worth)
> a few jugs of water (the colder the better)
> a ladle
> a few coffee filters
> a waste bucket
> frozen trimmings/bud (break it up, by try not to powder it)
> a spoon
> some tape
> a couple of extras bowls and plates on hand help


step 1> get your ice & trim frozen, i leave them over night.

step 2> cut out a square big enough to stretch over the large bowl, and tape it down (you want it firm but not too tight), you should now have what looks like a drum

step 3> fill the jar one third of the way with ice, fill it half full with water, and then add some of your trim, leaving a fair gap for air, and shake it up for a minute or two

step 4> pour the contents of the jar through the tights into the bowl, and scrape the leaf & ice off the screen and put it in another bowl or something

repeat steps 3 & 4 until your trim is done, then do it again with the wet trim to make sure you get most of the crystals

you should be left with a green liquid, remove the tights and allow the liquid to settle for an hour (i heard this should be done in the fridge but im not sure if its a neccecity)

an you should see loads of stuff at the bottom, thats your hash

ladle out as much water as you can with out disturbing the bottom and pour the rest of the water through coffee filters, if you do it right, most of the stuff with stay in the bowl which can easily be scooped up, and the rest will be in the filters

squeeze your wet powder in coffee filters to remove most of the moisture then break up and dry out for 24 hrs, you can smoke it like that, or compress it in your hand as i do to turn it into a solid

results will vary depending on quality of trim, and how much the tights are stretched etc, but blonde hash is possible with this method

so there ya go, good hash is cheaper than soap

I've got some trim hanging about and i was interested in making some ice hash. Trouble is i'm too tight/broke to spend $150 (never found UK site selling) for the ice bags.

I was thinking of going to a printers to see if i could get the correct grade screen/filter but here i am and the answers right next to me.....Get your tights off Mrs Hophead

The other option i had was to try the butane extraction but that sounded fiddly and i've not found where to but clean butane

Do you dry the trim before freezing, and how much trim d'ya reckon you'd need to start getting results.

Nice thread, I've fancied making ice hash cos I've never had it but the bags are waaaay to expensive, I'll give this a go when I've got the trim. I don't care about the weight of my first harvest, but the wait is heavy, man.

yeah, dry it out as much as possible before freezing

id say you'll need at least a few handfuls of good trim

when i harvest i remove the leaves by hand, and make sure i get the whole leaf, the stems have so many crystals that would be missed by trimming round the buds with scissors

'nother daft question (I've got a lunchbox full of trim spread out & drying in my wardrobe ) does it work better with whole ice cubes or with the ice broken up a bit ?

but im guessing large cubes are best (more aggition to knock of trics and that)


id like to say that the above method is not written in stone, its just my way of doing it

Tried it out last night, just waiting for the dust to settle, so to speak ( I keep checking on it about every ten minutes - it's slowly settling, the top inch or so of water is now almost clear, and I can see kinda gritty bits & white frothy bits at the bottom ). Had an idea for how to get the most out (pikey, but I'm not proud) - I'm collecting all my shade leaf to make cannabutter, so I'm gonna add the used trim from this cos I reckon even if all the trichomes are gone, there's gonna be a little bit of THC locked up in the leaves. Also when I pour off this water, I'm gonna use it for the boiling water when I make the butter - that way I figure I'll get any trichomes that haven't settled out.

Sounds great from the responses. I got some Ice-O-Lator bags (2 set) for £32 last year and got some nice Ice hash from them

I freeze the trim whil it's still wet, fresh from the plant....

This way you tend towards a cleaner hash, the dried trim nivariably some veg matter dried and dusty coming through......

Hardly a disaster, you still getting lovely smoke, but if you want cleanest...(though slightly smaller amounts), you use your trim wet and frozen.....

Another couple of observations, cos I've just done the other half of my trim. First time I used a glass bowl, second time I've used a stainless steel one, cos it seems easier to scrape hash off metal than glass (I used a filter paper first time, but I think I lost a lot in the weave, so I'm gonna decant the water off as it settles & let the last evaporate off). That's my second observation - in decanting and setting aside the water, more matter is separating out, but the first lot is kinda khaki grey (I'm red green colour blind, so it may be another colour entirely, but it looks khaki to me), while the second lot is creamy white, so it appears the pouring off of the water could be used as some kind of grading, but I'll have to test that out once it dries out

I reckon we should put together a spoof kids TV show, with DIY bong making, this ice hash recipe & various other tips from the site, call it Green Peter

got a whole plants worth of trim from my last last lot still, mixed with dust from all sorts ive smoked in the last two months

im gonna mix that lot with this crop trim and see what i get

I was wrong about the bowl - glass is better than metal, metal's OK while it's still damp, but if you let the 'dregs' dry out, it scrapes off glass easy, but not metal...
Also the decanting does seem to produce different 'grades', the heavier stuff that sinks straight away is the best (my mate remarked that it was like charas - not a bad comment on my first effort), I'm just smoking the last of the lighter stuff that I evaporated the water off - still a nice smoke, but more like commercial hash (not soapbar!!!) - more of a "hashy" smell to it, if that makes any sense. I found it easiest, instead of filtering, to just carefully pour off the water, then when there's not much left, gather all the stuff into a blob with a credit card & tip the bowl so the last of the water drains off, then when it's not too sticky, mould it with your fingers.

Again (at the risk of sounding like a stuck record) thanks for the thread - the hash I made was a far nicer smoke than the bud off my first plant (but I fucked up the nutes during flowering & roasted the main bud cos the light was too low ). I'm a couple of weeks from chopping down my next 2 plants (which look far sexier than my first) - I've got a pair of tights & a couple of ice cube trays at the ready
I think the lass in the chemist thinks I'm a tranny, though - shame, she's cute

i would imagine that crushing the ice would preduce better results as their would be greater surface area friction/contact between the crystals/ice and it may help to break the draw up without powdering it...

i like the sound of that, im too poor to buy a extractor bag at the mo, but will give your one a try for definate, got some crop on moday to sort out so will give it a try!

I made some more a couple of days ago, I'm just smoking the first spliff (and my GOD is it nice - the fact that I made it plays a major part in this, but it really is some of the nicest hash I've ever smoked, both in taste - it's sweet - and high ). I broke the ice up a bit, didn't quite crush it but the cubes were in 3 or 4 pieces, seems to have done a better job than last time with whole cubes. Once I'd poured off most of the water I kept scraping the stuff together in a pile & tipped the bowl to let the last of the water drain off, then I transferred the lump of goo onto a tablespoon & put it in the oven at 120 C for ten minutes. It was kinda almost khaki and like sticky sand when it went in, when it came out it was a lovely dark brown & gooey. That was last night, today it's almost black & still very soft, and I put about half as much as I'd usually put in a single skinner in a king skin joint, and as you can probably tell by my rambling I'm wasted.

£15 an eighth for ropey polm, what was I thinking

how much trim do ya need to make a reasonable amount?

I'm really bad at judging amounts, but I had enough trim to fill a large coffee jar when frozen, and I ended up with about a sixteenth of hash (but if I were to compare it in terms of strenth with commercial hash, it's more like a quarter, cos I'm putting hardly any in) - that was from my first 'shake & strain' - I put it back in the freezer and gave it another go last night cos I could still see trichs on the trim, that's settling now (if my previous go is any indicator, if I shake it more vigorously & for longer I'll get about the same amount again, but it won't be anything like as potent). I think bushdoctor said a couple of good handfulls.

i take it yo u can roll the hash as its soft???

well i bought 2 buckets, a pair of tights, some coffee filters, and iom picking up the ice tonite

well i did it, i made some water hash tonight, and i will say its ***cking great,
have to wait for the rest to dry dried a small bit quickly cos i couldnt wait the rest will be ready tomorow

out of 3 large zip lock bags i got about 1/8th from it after the pre smoke it weighed in at 3.2g. happy with that, smokes like a dream, just like abit of nipolise i had in Dam.

thanks to bushdoctor for the totaly creative idea,
i slightly moddified the shopping list to suit what i could find:
2 x buckets @ £1.50 each = £3
1 x pair of tights @ £0.99
1 x box of coffee filters @ £0.99
2 x bags of ice @ £0.99 each = 1.98
Total £6.96
(havent the cappacity for making ice or it would be cheaper)

the bud was frozen already, so i wipped up a bucket of freezing water and added the ice and the trim, mixed with a electric whisk for 15 mins then repeated after half hour, after straining into another bucket with the tights over i left the greeny water in the fridge over night, and used a pint glass to scrape off the top 3/4 of the water and used a 100ml syringe to suck up the rest, just leaving a little water in the bucket i then tipped that into a smaller see through bowl and refridged for another hour to settle again using the syringe i got rid of the excess water to show the hash on the bottom and then put the tiny amount of water left through the coffee filter, i squeezed the filter dry, be carefull not to brake the filter like i did, and scrape off the hash (sandy looking at this point) and leave to dry, the next day wala you have hash you can mould into whatever shape you want.

this has got to be the simplest and most fun ive had, try it at home!!!lol

A final thing you might try is something I picked up from reading the polm & bubblebag hash threads. Put it on a baking sheet & pop it in the oven on no higher than 150c for ten minutes/quarter hour. I found when I did that my hash went from a kind of dull sandstone appearence to a lovely soft, brown hash. The real method is to put it in an airtight plastic bag, wrap that in wet paper & bake it, then roll it while it's still in the wet paper so you end up with a flat sheet (something about breaking open the trichomes), but I think the heat is the important bit, it certainly seemed to improve mine (I say under 150 cos I've read around & variously found the vaporization point of THC to be 170 or 200, so 150 is well below the lowest).

Hi all,

well its not quite tommorow yet but here are some pics of the hash in the making.

This time when we manicured the plants, we cut all the trim into smaller pieces
to make hashing easier, as it was fresh it was easy`er to cut up.

we also added some water to the trim to help freeze and save on buying so much ice, and left a bucket of water in the fridge to get chilled, (this is ok if ya have a spare fridge, or if you can bottle it)

we then placed the frozen trim blocks into the bucket a beat them up to show em who was boss, pic =

we then attacked with the electric mixer to shake em around abit and brake up the ice more and it soon looked like this, pic=

we left this for about 15mins and repeated again then left another 15 mins

we then poured the bucket of icey trim into the other bucket with the tights over and straighned thoroughly,
and scraped of the icey trim back into the original bucket and bagged up for a re-run in the future.

we then placed the bucket into the fridge over night, and the leftover trim into the freezer.

tommorow i will post some more pics on the final straining through the coffee filter into a pint glass.

right, ive removed most of the water from the bucket with a pint glass (gently)
and poored the hashy water into a clear jug and left for 1 hour to settle again then sucked more surface water off with a syringe and poored the left over contents into the coffe filter that we have strapped over a pint glass as below....

after settling in the coffee filter for a while we removed the coffee filter from the glass and laid it on the side so we could dab it with a tea towel, beacause we used the tea towel to soak up the excess water we could handle it much better and actually mould it to a cube with our fingers see pic.....
i have left it on a coffee filter to help dry it out faster as it is still moist.

will post the final pics tommorow.

I´ve just finished removing as much water as possible and I´m going to leave the rest to evaporate out on the balcony.
Seems to be going ok so far with a fair deposit on the bottom.
When I was whisking my frozen trim, ice and cold water mix I found it far easier to put the whisk in, leaving the handle out of the top and to cling film over the top of the bucket so that I could really blitz it up without it spraying everywhere.

Hi Guys n girls, well went back to me cube this afternoon and its nicely dried.

its a bit greener than the last lot but still handles pretty well, i dont think i will leave it on top of the coffee filter over night again, as its abit dryer than the last batch could be down to the green?

Anyway it weighs in at 2.4 grams a bit less than before, but we did use less trim,
well ive got 12 plants worth of trim saturday night so no doubt i will have another go

That was the trim from just one plant. I haven´t cut any of the rest down yet.
