ROSSMAN99
Hi all,
In case you havent noticed this is my first post! (anywhere!).
I went out last week and forked out on 6, 400w sodium lights(the lot!), now i planned to do the grow around mid april and i have a highly experienced mate who said he`s here to help, but i don`t wanna pester him with constant Q`s, so what i`m really after is some answers as to how many i could grow under these lights? And what is a decent size room to grow in, for this number of plants? (bearing in mind i`ve almost unlimited space in the selected location!)
Also any big hints and tips to make my first grow successful?
Probably alot to ask as a first poster but any info will be gratefully recieved...

Most people would recommend not starting too big. 34.gif

Thats alot of light mate, it would cover loadsa space, about 50 sq.ft

How much do you smoke exactly??? unsure.gif

I didn`t realise that it would cover such a large area, i was told i`d need around six lights if i wanted to grow 8-10 plants... is this wrong then? 34.gif

hey rossman99,

That's a lot of light to be starting out with, and it's going to be a steep learning curve! Most would advise you not to start so big. Also bearing in mind, your going to have to fork out another wad of cash for all your other bits and peices, 8" fans, 8" filters, 8" silencers (depending on the location), ducting, all your nutrients, air-pumps, your grow system or pots and compost, you'll need a lot anyway!!

With the lights you have, you could cover 6 square metre's. You could have 1 light over 1 square metre, covering 1 plant.

So you'd need a room of at least 6 square metres, and you could grow between 6 and 60+ plants.

It'll be a LOT of work looking after that lot!

Might be best starting off with just a couple of the lights. wink.gif

I guess your right...

I was thinking too big wink.gif

I`ll scale things down a bit and start from there...
Your right about the learning curve, its started already.
But hey, take the rough with the smooooothe... right? cool.gif

6 400W lol.gif lol.gif

Thats a hell of a first grow man, take no prisoners. I use 1 400W plant and grow between 4-6 plants under it, and get about 1-1.5oz per plant, enough to last me between harvests (most of the time). There are other things you need to consider which are just as important as lights, good ventilation is one, you need a decent extractor fan for fresh air. Have you decided to grow hydro for sure? If so what method do you plan on using. You can always have a go at a DIY system as a fully kitted hydro kit for use with 6 lights is going to cost quite a bit.

You'll also be wanting some quality seeds, or cuttings if you know a man who knows a man wink.gif

Good luck with the grow mate.

Yeah, I kinda just know the first man, he`s gonna give me a hand to set up and say he`s got eight cuttings that are gonna be ready in a week or so, so i gotta get a move on really, he`s giving me a couple of large trays to grow in (about 6-8 plants in each) so i was thinking about three lights over each tray, then staggering the grow, so i grow six to start with, then another six half way through the growth of the first....? will the amount of light effect the yeild? 1eye.gif

More light will give more yield, at least if other environmental factors are catered for.

How are you intending on venting your room? Have you got your fans yet?

You'll need some damn big ones i'd say, specially when summer comes.

How big are the trays?? 4 plants fits lovely under one 400, so i'd just use 2 of em to cover eight.

Hey mate,
I`ll be putting an 8" extractor into the outside wall, with a 6" flow coming into the grow room, this way i think i`ll always be pushing out more than i can bring in, i`ll also have 1 or 2 carbon filters...

The trays i have are around 3ft sq, by 5" deep, made from fibre glass, my mate has been growing in these for the last couple of years,

Sound ok so far? guitar.gif

my advice to you m8, is to
(1) work out how much smoke you need every harvest & what type of grow your gonna do (hydro/soil)
(2) work out how big an area you need to grow that smoke(say an oz a plant for the 1st grow)
(3) build the growroom, it must be lightproof!! then sort out ventilation for that area
(4) work out your lighting (40or50w per sq ft)
then i`d start thinking of strains nutes etc
at the end of the day m8, you need to make some decisions b4 the ppl here can really give you definate answers wink.gif
for the record, i can easily grow enuf weed(10oz) to keep me going for 2 months under a single 600w hps smoke.gif
good luck with your grow bro thumbsup.gif
btw you`ll need to match your in/out fans to get the full benefit from them(you cannot extract what isnt there)
