if you look through the data sheets of all the commonly used fans, the TD160 runs at a phenomenally low 18db, far lower than any others. No fan is completely silent - but if you suspend it with bungee, or wedge it in with chunks of foam rubber, it'll stop the vibration travelling into the woodwork! - beyond that, if you bury it inside the cupboard, sucking through a home made panel filter, with a short length of flexible ducting as outlet, they run nearly silently! smoke.gif

Have you got the ducting on it yet?
That makes a LOT of difference.

hey there spliffy i own a rvk 100 4 inch fan i find that rather loud i can hear it in the next room maybe the way to go would be to enclose it in a box that is lined with foam two holes one in one out for ducting todampen it down i used to work in the music industry this profession takes the killing of background noise to the extreme foam is a good thing to try also rockwool (the loft type ) hope this helps mate

You can hear yours in the next room???

Feck!!!

Me GR is in the bedroom, and I can sleep with the RVK running. I've added a controller and it's almost silent mate.

Sounds like you've got it sorted anyway Peps.

I also found mine to be a bit loud when on full speed.

I wrapped the whole thing in an old blanket/quilt and stuck duct tapes around it, it's just a whisper now.

Hi
Ive got a 8 inch tds fan and what i did was buy a big plastic stacker box with a lid, cut a hole in each end for your ducting and then i dryed out a bag of coco and poured that in ontop of the fan and pack it in tight.
quietens them down no end,i suppose you could use polystyrene as well
also sentinel controllers are pretty good, they have the fan running o low speed and then kick in on full if things get too hot.

My TD160 just purrs, nice and quiet guitar.gif

build a blackbox around it with noise-isolation
