The best place i found is on the newsgroups...

Still don't know what they are, but have seen loads of links for them here - http://www.sharereactor.com if you have emule, edonkey, overnet etc.

You have to be on #tombstones as well or they will kick you from #mame
you also have to register your nick before you can join #mame
just type
/NickServ register <password> <email> in the status window. You must use a real email address as you will have to confirm a code they send you.
All the roms are there and some peeps run ftps that you can access if you send them an email.
Or easier still get them with bittorrent from www.suprnova.org.
Look in games - roms. A full set is 7G+
