RAZ
Hi all,
I thought i might as well get the diary on the go so here go's...
We set off some early girl(wish i had'nt yet) and a couple od FDM 50/50 ,100% germination using paper towel's, i was really surprised that it took a little over 24hrs.
They were then put in a mix of John Innis no2 + vermiculite in 2in pots, and placed in the "veg" chamber, this was an old set of draws about 1.5h 2w+1ft deep,
we used 3 x 30watt stripe fluro's for lighting, which are attached to a board which can be highered or lower with ease.
RAZ
The lights were lowered after the pic was taken.
All the plants 2x EG and 2x 50/50 were repotted on the on the 5/02/04 into 4in pots (same mixture).
We then proceeded to design and build the grow-room.
RAZ
plus
RAZ
Getting the floor ok still...
RAZ
Not got the pics that i need ,they must be on nigfis's camera so i'll post more tomorrow ..................
RAZ
Ok here's a few more Bob the biulder pic's
RAZ
And more still....
RAZ
Getting there....
MDP
lol.gif raz, you aint the best laminate flooring installer ive ever seen m8 wink.gif
seriously tho bud looks like your on the right lines, keep the pics coming thumbsup.gif
RAZ
And here's the light fitting......
RAZ
Actually it was nigfis that layed the floor (lol.gif)
RAZ
And with the light fitted (finally).....
RAZ
This shot was taken when the seedlings were 11 days old.......
RAZ
The seedling's started to stretch a little bit so we put the light a little closer,
RAZ
After a lot of phaffing and several trips to B&Q we decided to go with an oil filled rad (safer)......
RAZ
Ok OK here comes the good bit the plant's..........
RAZ
Ok the plant's are now about 2 weeks old and i made a typical noob error, i gave them a feed.................
RAZ
Right so after i nearly killed the poor little mitt's and lots of prayers to the cannagod i flushed with fresh water , successfully thankfully they turned out like this.....
RAZ
And
RAZ
Ok at first we had a 4 in pc fan as an extractor, but even at such a young age the plants were starting to smell a wee bit so we decided to get a better unit and to build a filter (caused many a whinge), the fan was the TD 160.... here's some pic's of how we built the filter...
RAZ
Step 2
RAZ
Step 3 this is cookerhood filter material cost was about £13, got enough to make 3 filters...
RAZ
The next step was to add some activated charcoal bought from our local garden/fish centre cost £8.50 for 2.5kg
RAZ
...... creating an even layer......

Shw Mae Elzzar, how's it going mate?

think I'll come back and look when you're finished, you're taking too long to get the pics up, and the suspense is killing me smile.gif

BM
RAZ
. .........Then another layer of cooker-hood material and a quick once-round with sealant, and the bottom-half is finished.............
RAZ
....... The modified lid with extraction pipe fitted.........
This was then fixed to the roof of the grow-room so the base (the filter itself) could be attached and removed easily......
RAZ
..... a lot like this...........
RAZ
The base now just clips into place.........

Notice the essential added extra.............. Kylieeeeeeeeeee. wub.gif
RAZ
. and finally, the grow-room is finished!

WooHoo!!

The temps are about 63deg tops and cooling to 53deg overnight with the lights off.

Lights are currently running at 20/4.

More plant pics to come, but we can't get in there because the kids won't play out. sad.gif
Bullockmush
Looks good mate, have you tested it yet?

edited - I mean the filter

BM
RAZ
Forgot to include a shot of the ducting which extracts into the eaves.....
.....Time to stand back and congratulate ourselves..........

Bullockmush,
Yes mate. We tested it with a freshly-cut onion. Without the filter it stank like buggers, with the filter on, not even a whiff. biggrin.gif 100% successful for a total cost of roughly £7 per filter (in materials).

nigfis
Plant pictures?

It's bloody pornography....... biggrin.gif

Bullockmush
Looking good mate, was thinking of making a filter myself, got a bus filter, but it is huge, yours looks a nice manageable size.

By the way, what are you doing there with your hands in your pockets, staring at the Kylie calender. I swear I can see some motion blur there wink.gif

nigfis
biggrin.gif Oddly enough, his pockets don't have a lining. biggrin.gif

Congratulations to the pair of ya! wink.gif

Is that LTI coping to extract enough air through that homemade filter?
RAZ
This shot taken today shows the "praying" leave syndrome......
Which only seems to be happening on the EG,

I reckon so Bish the temp's have stayed the safe......

Did you repot into some fresh medium yesterday?

What medium are you using again?

edit -

i missed that spliff.gif
nigfis
Seems to be Bishy,
It's wired in it's higher speed mode, and the attic now smells like............ an attic again.
I daresay we could probably remove some of the filter material if we find it can't keep up at a later stage, but not having experimented before, I think we erred on the side of caution.
Do you think the cooker-hood material would be enough on it''s own?

No i had only repotted them a few days ago....
Here's a pic of one of the 50/50....
Bish
Is that cooker hood stuff activated charcoal then? If it is, you might be able to get away with 2 or 3 layers of it as opposed to all that charcoal pellet stuff.

See how it goes, but that LTI needs to be extracting enough air form your box every hour.
RAZ
I am begining to think that we need an oscilating fan because the 2 50/50 where closer to the blowing fan (a pc power supp) than the EG so i've changed places so we'll see, were using J Innis no2 and vermiculite Bish, but gonna move upto no3 for next repotting......anyway here's a final shot for today of them all upto date......
Bish
You will need an oscillating fan in there, so you don't get pockets of stale stagnant air building up.

And when you repot into JI#3, don't add anything else to it like perlite, etc. It's full of grit & course sand which is more than adequate for drainage.

And a tip with using JI#3 is not to firm or press the compost. No need to even tap the pot to settle it as it'll end up like concrete & consequently the root ball will never become fully saturated - the water will just run down the edges of the pot wink.gif
RAZ
Anyone know where we can get one this time of year?
Highest Grade
homebase, B&Q anywhere really.

RAZ
They don't seem to have them in yet, nearer summer the woman said, so until i can get one sorted i've done a bit of DIY to go with the pc power supply......

Well went to see the Ladies (i hope) this morning and all is well, did notice what looked like pre-flowers on the taller EG, so got the digicam out and tried to get some pic's, £270 worth of camera and its real shit at macro.Sooooo i got the camcorder out instead and hooray they is defo pre-flowers, a bit too small to tell what sex but it's given me a little adreniline 1eye.gif .
Now the only problem i got is that i can't get my images off the camcorder(no mem card yet), is there anyway it can be done without a memory card?I'de sooo love to be able to show you all!
Oh yes and if someone could tell me how long it takes for the preflowers to be sexed once they show i'de be greatful....
cheers guy's Elzzar unsure.gif

Some vars show sex at 4 weeks, some show at 6/7 weeks. What you're looking for is tiny pistilate hairs emerging from the forming calyxes (primordia). Be patient though, as some females don't express their pistilate characteristics straight away & you could end up binning a female thinking it was a male.

Time is of the essence wink.gif
