Hiya.
Is there anyway of finding out if someone is putting my e-mail address down for spam?
I'm constantly bombarded by spam for such things as Viagra, Penis Enlargement pills, pre. ejaculation remedies, blind dates and countless other products and services aimed at sexualy inadequate males.
I don't have probs with me stiffy, I don't shoot me goo early (weed sees to that), I'm happy with the size of me cock (as is the missus) and I don't want a fucking blind date with some fat munter that can't get shag any other way.
I don't use porn sites. If I do go onto any slightly dubious sites that require an e-mail address I use an alias e-mail not my main address.
I've been unsubscribing myself from the things for bloody months and they keep coming back.
Is someone taking the piss, d'ya reckon?

Ta-dah!
There's the problem Jonno....the more you try to unsubscribe, the more they send to you as they then know the e-mail addy they are sending to is active, (oldest trick in the book)!
Try using "message rules" to block unwanted e-mails, using subject lines such as "viagra", "big nobs" and "shag-a-munta" or words to that effect.

.....and don't unsubscribe to anymore e-mails fella!
Good luck!

It just confirms to the bastards that your email addy is live
hot property in spam world, they sell it on to all the other Spam Inc. as a good one

there's a really good free programme called "Mailwasher" - it downloads the message headers only - does a damned good job of picking out the spam, which you then delete without downloading, then open your mail programme to download what you do want!

A good method of avoiding spammers is if you post your email address in the open, post it like, for example, souljahAThotmailDOTcom, or souljah@NOSPAMhotmail.com. That will throw off the spammers from harvesting your address automaticly using bots.
As for mail filtering...Id agree with Vlad on mailwasher...does an excellent job of picking off spam.
Though, if you want to forward the munta spam to me, it'll make a change from mortgage, loans, insurance and other assorted financial bullshit spam Im gettin! Whats a guy gotta do to get some good quality porn spam these days!

I'll see your mailwasher, and raise you a
PopfileBloody good...after a few days of learning, it identifies almost 100% of yer spam.
It acts as a proxy server between your mail client and your POP3 account......adds a header to the each email, and you simply filter the added headers into your desired mail client folder/s.
Configures automatically with Outlook. If you don’t use outlook, i assume you know how to configure it anyway.

Mailwasher gets my vote.
Not sure I know about proxy servers and stuff but I do know that it lets you preview mail before you download it (text), decide how you want it handled, is stable, reliable, doesn't need constant updating. Been using it for a couple of years now, nothing gets through - I'd show you my blacklist but its too bloody big.
one tip though, don't let it bounce the e-mail though. That's not quite as bad as attempting to unsubscribe yourself

but it's not far off.

Could you explain that, Labrat? That's what I do with Mailwasher. I assumed it was sending a respose as if bounced by the ISP because your email address didn't exist.

I would recommend not bouncing via mailwasher or any other client side application.
This is not a real "bounce" more of a faked one and could achieve the same result as trying to unsubscribe - i.e your sending of the email/bounce tells the spammer that you do exist.
It also has unfortunate side effects e.g that if a spammer fakes someones email address as the sender then you are sending your bounces to the wrong place anyway.

Cheers for the advice, chaps.
I thought it might've been the wifes ex trying to get one back on me!
I'll stop unsubscribing and get one of those washer maties on the go.
Thanks

I used to have the same problem..... I always write my mail address on forums now as Nick(at)whatever.com to stop people gettin it that way
if you have a website & your email address is up there, you can get tiny javascripts that basically do the same thing to stop bots nicking your address
