First off i will add i did a search but was not able to find an answer
Ok Coco Coir media. I have never used this and still im pretty new-ish to growing so not all the clued up on all the ways to grow. so i have some questions about using Coco Coir.
1. Would i be correct in saying that when watering your plant when using coco. There is no watering needed (as such) as it draws it up from the bottom. IE you would sit your pot into a smaller pot and when the coco dryed out it would simply wet itself by drawing more water up? So it gets watered from the bottom
2. would i grow in rock wool then just place the cube on top of the coco? then the roots would grow through the coco media?
3. Ive seen people speak about placing an air stone in the bottom of a pot so to direct air directly to the roots and through the media. is this classed as some sort of bubbler system?
4. If im right in the fact it gets watered from the bottom how much water would i need in the bottom ie how much coco would i need to cover with water for the. capillary type system to work is very little needed or would a few inches of covering be needed?
5. anyone point me to some info on coco systems and how they work
thank you for any information guys

i just put coco in pots an water from the top same as you do in compost, sometimes i do it from the bottom but i usually dont bother.
i would still water from the top ive never heard of that sayin that you dont need to water as such. although id assume it doesnt really matter as the coco should soak it all up to the top anyway eventually.
i just put my seeds straight into the coco after being in water over night, if im using clones then i pot them up into coco when rooted out in jiffy or rockwool or wotever u want an cover with coco, you can put them on top an let the roots grow down first them cover them over if you want i dont think it makes much difference tho.
never heard of the bubbler being used in pure coco mate, i dont see how that would work really. i thought its very similar to compost jus gives hydro results an is a bit more complex, cant really run a bubbler in compost very easily ,or can you?
i dont understand the capillary system you mentioned either, you can get a drip system if you want to manage the watering an that has a reservoir but it is different sizes for each system out there.
hand watering is jus similer an cheaper not much else you can with pure coco growing apart from mix it with other mediums, you can use it as a medium in most hydro/aero systems tho jus to get em started out in, but it sounds like you wanna grow it in pots like compost but use coco instead.
it depends on your pot size an how big your plants are as to how much water you need to give them. same as compost really not too much but dont let it dry right out that will damage the smalle fine root hairs.

By capillary action i was talking about the fact it sucks up water from the bottom sorry maybe it was the wrong word to use.
For the air stone thing i guess i could put clay balls in the bottom and then an air stone in with that. looking at peoples grows with coco. i thought coco was abit more loose and not so compact so maybe if i was to put clay in the bottom and coco on top of that the air from the air stone would not run through the coco as it is compacted

Good thread. Some of the things you was unsure about Grimweeder are mentioned in that above thread.

I've not heard a 'need' to water from the bottom, 95% of people I know water coco from top mate!
I could be completely wrong in saying this but I'm sure I read before that roots at top of pot take in more nutrients, not that feeding from bottom wouldn't saturate all the coco but it might be slightly better nutrient uptake from watering from top!
Also, I may be Reading your post wrong but if you leave the bottom of the pot in water how will the pots dry out? Cannabis plants are greedy, you'll end up over watering I'd imagine! I'd just water them from the top when needed, probs every two days!
Rockwool to coco isn't a problem, they'll root and grow fine!
In regards to airstone, I've heard of this before and people doing side by side grow with and with airstone in pot and said there was n bdifference in the plants!
Probs best to just have coco, bit of perlite and maybe even a layer of clay balls in bottom of pot! I've not used clay balls before but heard it works well.
