Need to upgrade my extraction from a 4" to a 6".. thing is I have 4" acoustic ducting and wondering if I can keep that ducting? is there a gizmo or handy tip to do this or will I have to order the 6" acoustic ducting as well, seems a crime to make the 4" ducting redundant but if it needs to be, it needs to be.

Many thanks in advance, have asked the same question on my thread about light being too close in general growing questions but need a fairly quickish answer as I want to order.

cheers.

ETA: I am thinking about a 5" fan with 5" acoustic ducting, its cheaper but I don't want to be pissing in the wind if it means paying extra now then it will have to do, I am just a bit pig sick about having a load of 4" acoustic ducting lying around doing nothing, can hardly put it on freecycle rofl.gif

growroom dimensions and set up etc are in me profile.. would the 5" do the business or is 6" the way to go? oh and the high powered and low powered ones.. how would a 6" low powered fan compare to a 5" high powered fan?

Sorry for the waffle but in the process of tweaking and don't want to have to upgrade it again.. I thought with the new room I had it sussed but still producing shit yields and maybe using the 4" i am currently using to extract as an intake will improve my yields.

Bite the bullet and do it right, get 6" ducting, you found the money to get a lumatek ballast and a diamond reflector

Cant you find a 6 inch plastic pipe ? A mate who works on a building site ?

cheers guys...

the diff in price is around 20 bucks so not really worth thinking twice about so will get it...

now then, my present outake is in the grow room itself and thinking maybe I could put the new fan in the attic and run acoustic ducting down into the grow would be 3ft max (allowing for 1 foot to be inside the grow) would it extract just as good or would i compromise the extraction? have seen pics on here of peeps grows where thervk fan is not inside the room.

could get the 8" for an extra fiver from greens... looked on fleabay earlier and there are some dirt cheap fans going at what seems ridiculous prices but will stick with greens, the guys n gals there are 1st class so they are.

Forget eBay mate, dodgy place to be buying grow gear.

It will be ok to do what you said with moving the exraction fan out of the grow room, and attatch 3ft of duct to pull air from withing your grow room.

But you didnt mention a carbon filter on the end ?

Cant advice you on getting the 8 inch fan as I dont know what size your grow room is.

Hi Stealth

thanks for the reply... no carbon filter, really is not needed around my way plus me house ALWAYS stinks of green, plus am pretty secluded only the one neighbour...

my existing ducting is all in place and wondering about a "reducer" 150m to 100m, they have them in greens but I have no idea how they work or if they will compromise my extraction? can't see how and that acoustic ducting is pretty tough getting it through the holes and i will have to make the holes bigger so if a reducer will do the biz.. then why not use what I have?

grow room is roughly 4ft wide... 2.5ft deep and 6ft high..

the thing is that is niggling me is the waste, if i can keep the 4" ducting in use then all the better.. does anyone here use reducers?
bushtuka
good question. I've been told you can make your own reducer by cutting the bottom off a flowerpot and wrapping in duct/gas tape. just an idea man..

smaller the ducting the more it will restrict flow... obviously you're trying to squeeze more air through a smaller pipe doh.gif always get bigger ducting than your fan if possible, if not just get the appropriate size
