After trawling though a few growshop sites i found that this shop does the cheapest readymade contactors i could find...

i am running a x1 - 400w hps. ideally i would like to get this 1kw/1 light contactor (top of the page in this link) [Spam Link removed]

Can i run the rest of the equipment through a normal extension lead? (fan/pump/heater/rotating fans) and will it be safe?

whatever contactor i get.... i will need to buy some wire to extend the length of it as the plug socket i will be using is in a downstairs bedroom and needs to be fed thorugh the ceiling to the loft above.......what type of wire would i need to do this safely? someone mentioned "gauge 12"???????

i obviously want the £18 - 1 light contactor due to price and the fact that if i do upgrade my light then it will be a 600w and this contactor can handle that also......but what one of those contactors would you suggest?
as soon as i know i can get it ordered today

cheers chaps

should be cool two roach,..so ya usin one lead for the light and a seperate lead for the rest the fans n stuff?

btw..linky dont work bro.
TwoRoach
Yes bizz
i will be using seperate extensions for the light and other stuff

to see the link just replace the hxxp with http - and if that dont work then im an idiot

i run my light off a contactor and everything else from an extension although it all comes out the same single plug as it goes through an energy monitor... less that 13A per socket = okay

maplins sell cheap extension leads, or just get some 13a flex if you want to wire it yourself... if unsure go for cooker cable as that takes almost anything.
TwoRoach
13amp flex you say? i should be ok to wire it up myself tbh
cheers for that fella
bizzaro73
well you should be ok tw mate...thats exactly how i have mine setup, but i have my RVK's plugged into the same lead i use the lights in,..the rest off another one.
even tho most of our grow equipment uses pretty low power, bar the lights like, its good practice to not pile lots into one socket. wink.gif

You know when everyone tells you to use Greens it's not because we're working for them, it's because we've used them, time and time again, and know that they're secure and can be trusted to deliver a quality product.

Just thought I should point that out before you go using some random company to get grow gear whistling.gif

The people he's wanting to buy it off are cool - I've used them before.
TwoRoach
Not knocking greens at all....but this place is a lot cheaper

@bizzarro
do you have a 1 light contactor or 2? just one socket for one light? how do you have the fan and light on the same socket?

trouble is that the room below im getting the power from only has 1 double socket - the contactor will use both plugs will it not? how will i power the rest of the gear? bugger i never thought of that till now...
immoreorlessalive
run a one to two or four socket extension upstairs and run the contactor off that... you've only got a 400w there so my own view is that your whole setup should run happily off one socket... mine does.
TwoRoach
Brilliant
so get like a 10m extension lead that can take 13amp? and then run the contactor off that?
cheers
TwoRoach
ok chaps i got me contactor £26 / 2kw / 2 socket

Aaah nice one TW mucker your away then....yeh the lights and fans from the one extension.
plug the contactor two leads with timer into two sockets of one extension, with the primair power lead into that same extension.
then, heaters, circ fans,de humidi's whatever else goes into another extension,....full grow room operatin from a double wall socket.
i tend to try break up the wattages equelly so to speak over the two sockets(leads).
