Hi

First ever grow in Rdwc, in veg and got feed at 0.8ec and top up with 0.8ec/ph 5.4.

Over a couple days/week the ec stays stable and ph rises uptp 6.2 i then add ph down and bring it back to 5.4.

Plants look healthy enough ? Do i increase the feed though as it seems low for the size of them or do i wait for the ec to drop ??

Cheers

Well, given knowledge mostly learnt on here,it sounds that you have the 'perfect' water/feed ratio.
Ph rises when your girls are taking on nutes...sooooo...if the tank level drops over a few days, and the ec remains more or less constant, then you're on a winner. Obviously then,if the ec drops, they need more feed....equally,if the ec rises, back off on the nutes! But in all 3 cases,if the ph rises,it should be a sign they are feeding as required. DO NOT OVERFEED
Hope this helps.

Cheers Stripey, that makes sense.

they're just taking on more of the acidic nutrients, like N, than other nutrients, so your ec stays about the same, but ph raises, then you top the N back up with PH down if you're using Nitric acid, best to use Nitric in veg imo

My flood and drain system is exactly the same. It literelly runs its self. I just need to top up the water every few days. My e.c is 0.9 at the moment, im about 3 weeks ish into flower. Nice healthy plants from top to bottom. Dont change anything!

Hi all,
The same is happening in my system (also a RDWC) and I am using the normal PH down containg orthophosphoric acid. Is it ok to still use this or like has been mentioned is nitric acid better. If the plants are using more nitrogen what is the best way to replace this if need be, if not using nitric acid for PH correction, .

Thanks cain1.

AFAIK they're both fine to use.

IME phosphoric acid is more commonly used throughout but I dunno why...

Giving them more grow nutes would appear to be the simplest answer, although if your EC is remaining steady then I wouldn't mess with it - only give them more nitrogen if they start to show signs of nitrogen deficiency - I suggest reading the plants first & foremost, and use the readings from your meters to try to get supplementary information as to what's happening behind the scenes so-to-speak... so say I... v.gif

Thanks for the info Stan909. They should be ok I hope as I am using the Lucas formula. I will start to do partial water changes next week as they have only been in for 1 week.

Thanks again
regards cain1.

doh.gif On reflection that nugget of advice is too simplistic - I suggest keeping an eye on both at the same time wink.gif - sometimes a large swing in EC or pH can alert you to potential problems before the plants show any signs of damage...
