I was giong to wait and order a maxiswitch thing from greens but tbh if i do that ill have to wait till next month and im itching to get my 1st grow going....
So i just wanted to ask if there was any major saftey issues by just using an everyday extension lead to power a 125mm fan/ 400w hps/ water pump/and one or 2 rotating fans and possibly some kind of heater?

should i just get it started and add the Maxiswitch when i can afford it?

Ta chaps and chapettes

Your maxiswitch being your contactor?

You really need this before you start a grow matey smile.gif

There are lots of posts about it bust basically if you didnt use one of these and just used a timer on your light, the timer could burn out and be a fire hazard.
Worst case but knowledge is power and all.

Volc

eta. you could always start them off under CFL's if you have the space.

i think im gonna have to risk it for a few weeks then wink.gif see........................ smoking is dangerous rofl.gif

You NEED a contactor.
TwoRoach
I hear ya eri mate wink.gif and i will be getting one no doubt.....just cant get it for a few weeks...so i may just kick off without one for 2/3weeks
are greens secure? can i get a contractor from anywhere else that you know of?

It will be fine if you just turn the light on/off yourself and cut out a timer altogether methinks...Just do it at a time your always home.A contactor is really cheap tho and much safer. With a contactor you can use a timer and it all becomes reliable/regular..

PP..
e2a segmental timers are dangerous without a contactor..

if u use an extention cord use a minimum 12 guage. wire size.
TwoRoach
How would i know if its 12 gauge?
billious
start on 24/0 veg so you don't need a contactor for a while.... I'd also put the heater on a different lead so you spread the load, my heater at least trips the fuse if on the same cable as the lights. Also if you use a long cable don't leave it coiled up tight

thats how i did it , 'till i got the right tackle.

how are you with wiring tworoach ?

there's a thread on here in the diy section .

contactor :- 10 quid-ish. couple of bits of wire, extension lead 2 plugs & clippy box to hold it all ..

failing that , greens are fine and dandy wink.gif
