hi im running a 400w sodium with a 1kw powerstar contactor, now i want to run 2 400w sodium but the contator only has 1 plug socket, will it be safe to run a double extention plug on the 1 plugsocket for the 2 400w sodiums, cheers for eny help gingad
scraglor
yeah, no worries, if you're using a coiled up extension lead, either unwind it, or check the max current rating of the coil when it's wound up
gingad
i want to use one of the double extention sockets the ones you can get with 2 or 3 plugsocket holes in that plugs rite into 1 socket, or do i cut the cable and add a double socket? cheers

No - just use a regular extension lead as Scraglor suggests. thumbsup.gif

you 'can' use them, they're a bit shit though, if it's the only thing you have then use it, it should be rated to 13A, check first though. otherwise just go get yourself a 4 socket power strip from b&q or somewhere
gingad
cheers for all the replys i found a 4 way extention with a verry short lead, i was only worried it may be too much power going thru the contactor, it is a 1kw and im running 800w so hopefully it will be ok , cheers everyone, toke on smile.gif

so if ive got this right you are telling someone to use a contactor made for 1x 400w for 2x400w ....im surprised you have so much confidence, what you're telling him is dangerous...end of...
jonnyboy
gingad, the powercontroller you are referring to should only be used for 1 x 400w unit, that is what is recommended in the instructions, they aren't the best quality product on the market, so id say by bodging it you are risking it breaking ....and possibly worse....is it really worth it?

¿How did you work that out? The OP says that he has a 1KW contactor and wants to run 2x400W from it, and as it only has 1 socket on it, can he use an extension.

Scraglor is right.
