Does anyone have a list of lumens output for differing wattage Hps lamps ?

70w, 250w, 400w, 600w ?

There are some variables - exact make/type of lamp, age of lamp and type of ballast used but I have listed a rough guide below for standard HPS lamps;

70W - 6,300 lumens
250W - 29,000 lumens
400W - 50,000 lumens
600W - 92,000 lumens
1000W - 140,000 lumens

70w=90 lumens/watt
250w=116 lumens/watt
400w=125 lumens/watt
600w=153 lumens/watt
1000w=140 lumens/watt

Lumens aren't everything though I find the penetration from a 1000w to offset the slight decrease in lumens/watt from 600w to 1000w.

Bulbs degrade quick so after one grow these figures are meaningless anyway.

a 250w son-t is 30,000 lumens 120lm/watt and GE lucalox 250hps is 32000, 128 lm/watt, so not too bad

my 70w is 5800lm but its a frosted pear shaped bulb , got a clear sont for next run

Supossedly my 1000w's are 145,000 lumens so 145 lumens per watt, but is that when first used or after burn in I wonder.

Frosted bulb a no no.

that'll be after burn in tutu, it's average initial lumens. and it's only "up to", as well, generally lamps have a test range, as every single lamp will act slightly differently, even from the same batch, especially Metal Halides. the range will likely be something like 110000-145000, obviously all you ever see advertised is the max measured output during testing.

Cheers guys. So how do they compare to the big cfl lamps the 125w and 250w ones or even the tube types.

Just trying to get something which is the most economical for early veg, in between prop and flower.

cfl's don't compare not saying they aren't usefull but if you've got the height go for mh in grow

cfl's are something like 90 lm/watt, but because of the shape, and the intensity of the light as it leaves the lamp, they don't even come close. a top notch grow with an HID lamp (HPS or MH) can be expected to produce a gram per what, the same grow with envirolites, will produce 0.5 g/watt, the same with an LED you're looking at <0.5 g/watt. that's all you need to know!

hey im using 600w hialide from start to finish. have trouble wen they are young. gets too hot. but if temps contolled which i have now it works well good luck

After reading, reading and more reading i will not be going with cfl. Will either be 6400k fluro or Metal Halide.

Whats the rating on them ?

Or anyone use them for veg ???

i would go metal hailade. best yeild. depends on 400w or 600w i suppose. heat being a big factor in that choice. wen they are young its easy to burn them withh 600w

Fluro's and HID lighting is kind of like the difference between a wind up LED touch and you car headlights on full beam!

Fluro==less bud and more leccy than HID lamp for lamp all the way up from 70w-250w (I believe they do a 300w enviro, the 150w HID would beat it.)
