Full Version: Can I Join A Cf And Air-cooled Hood To 1 Fan?

I'm prepared to get shot down for this, but this question is important to me...

My mate who grows for disability relief has very little cash (maybe too little to grow properly?)

He has just one 5" inline fan which is pretty decent, a carbon filter and a 600w hps in a air-cooled hood.

He wants to switch from a 250w enviro blue cfl to the 600w dual spec hps, when he did the temps rose from
a stable 22 deg C to 45 deg C (for about 4 mins) and so switched the enviro back on.

The tent is 1m x 1m x 2m. He is about 2 weeks into seedling stage.

Is there a way to connect both the air-cooled hood and cf to the one fan?

CF is important as there are also more mature and smelly plants vegging in the same space.

Any ideas for re-jigging welcome.

Thanks for reading.

I vent through 2 cool tubes and then force the air through the CF , the 2 lights are only 250Ws though and I use a 5" but it is borderline with the temps .

Cheers Superstealth - That's a very good solution!

So what do you reckon to this?

Air In - inside tent - Inline Fan - Ducting - Air-cooled hood - Ducting - Outside Tent - Carbon Filter

I chose to put the fan first as it will be dealing with cooler temps than putting the fan after the hps...

Your thoughts are very much appreciated. thumbsup.gif

e2a: this cant work - I'll have to have a think

thumbsup.gif Got it!

Open vents in tent - inline fan into air-cooled hood - ducting - cf

My brain cells must be on strike in sympathy for the posties...

That looks ok dude but if it were me i would go ;

Air In - inside tent - Air-cooled hood -Inline Fan- Ducting - Outside Tent - Carbon Filter

Fans sucking tend to be more efficient than blowing

Good luck

Cheers Elmingo!

I did as you suggested, thanks!

It worked but not enough to keep the temps down enough pinch.gif
this was simply because the fan is too puny (183 m3/hour)

For now I've taken off the CF, it's brought the temps down quite a bit
but not enough, I fear. I'll be ringing my mate soon to find out.

Methinks I am experiencing the 'too cheap to grow' phenomenon.

It's tough when you have about £4 spare each week. cry.gif

Thanks, everybody, for your help!

Evening,
Are there many bends in the pipe, if there are try keeping the ducting as straight as possible.

Station.

What about the hps ballast ,in the tent or outside ?

They can give off lots of heat.
