Full Version: How Do I Put A Manhole In An Existing Concrete Floor?

Hey All, thumbsup.gif

I'm not too bad at diy, and I like to double-check what I'm doing before I make a complete mess of things...

I want to put in an Inspection Cover/Manhole into an existing concrete floor.

I believe the concrete floor is about 5 inches thick.

I need to be as quiet as I can in doing the job - but I accept there will be some noise.

If possible I'd like to work under the floor (there's about 1 metre of headroom) to contain noise and dust, etc.

I have eye-protection and headwear for dust-protection.

cheers!

Kango and a Stihl saw?

I did think about that, but didn't he put his into a newly-laid concrete floor?

The difference being I don't know how to 'suspend' the manhole appropriately.

I'm guessing at this stage to cut a hole just a few millimetres bigger than I need
and bolt the manhole in place?

That is how i would do it mate, maybe use a decent drill to drill holes around the perimeter of the hole, then just twat it with a lump hammer, if the holes are close enough you should get a man sized hole with jagged edges, then just knock the edges off. Hope that makes sense?

Cheers Taffy, it certainly makes sense!

Many thanks.

(Aren't Manhole covers expensive? £60+!)

I didn;t see this post, sorry - I went out after replying to the other post and just got in.

Thanks, Penny, but what's Kango?

A decent concrete floor will have steel rods in it to stop it from breaking like a biscuit stoned.gif

Kango = pneumatic drill

Just get a 9" angle grinder with a diamond blade, mark the whole the size you want it, cut it then smash it up into rubble with a lump hammer, place the manhole down and maybe cement back to it or fix it down with some decant fixings. unsure.gif

i would get the manhole cover 1st .. i think it comes wif a lip ..then cut hole in floor to fit..then cement it in
