Hello fellow farmers

I've just got my new setup up and running, I have a GS Pot Systems DWC kit, which is basically 4 buckets, 4 air stones and a pump to feed the stones. Nice and simple.
But the sounds the air stones make is alot louder than I thought it was going to be. It's alot louder than my 5 inch inline fan !!! You can hear it humming away downstairs so I don't know what the neighbours can hear ?
Is there anything I can do with them to make them quiet ? I don't know if I can stick this being in my bedroom and I'm worried the noise could get me clocked.
At this rate I'm tempted to get some pots and just got back to growing in soil.

I tried suspending the air pump on bungees wich works for the pump
but the bubblers were still noisey from the air bubbling out the air stones.
you could try setting the res. on some foam or rubber insulation ( i used good quality underlay that goes under carpet!)
that should help with some of the vibration but won't cure the problem.

I've got my whole tent sat on some foam and some foam under the pump which has stopped vibrations but there's still this overwhelming wooshing noise. I can't believe how loud it is, how do people use these setups and not get caught ?

I don't use airstones, use air tubing, make it into a ring with a T piece. Totally silent, only thing is is they float ???
Bought a load of rubber suckers to stick them to bottom of bucket but they keep coming loose....
Anyone got any ideas how solve this?

i think if you get some rust free bolts, zink i think, then thread the tubing through and they should stay at the bottom.

Hi matey,
try wrapping some insulation round the buckets if u can. Whicks has it on offer at but 1 get 2 free at the mo for 5 quid. This should help keep the noise down. Or you could just stick a CD on and block the noise out at least the neigbours would only hear the music.
Regards cain1.

You my friend, are the man

Went back to the grow shop and he sold me 4 air "curtains", bendy piece of foamy stuff with a hookup for the air hose. They bend to shap, make zero noise and don't float.
Thanks mate, you've saved me a load of trouble

what make and size air pump you running? I got a budget air pump from growell, made by hailea (looks like a toaster ). It puts out 60 litres / min and i got it running x 150mm air stones in complete silence (can run 12 with manifold ) , barring a few bubble noises!!

t off more air stones frome your pump to reduce the air pressure coming out each air stone. so that you have 2 airstones in each bucket, sit your buckets on some polystyrene foam to cut vibrations through your floor and also use wire to suspend your air pump to also cut vibrations, i used guitar 6th string , any vibrations your pump makes is trabsorbed by the string

you can buy 'air curtains' which are pretty quiet, they are 10'' ruber pipes with tiny holes, the good bit being that they have led or something inside the rubber so you can bend it to watever shape u want and it will stay at the bottom.. we have a pretty big pump and have it sitting on folded up carpet and it keeps the noise well down
