Full Version: Ventilation Setup Questions?

Hi Guys,

Happy Friday to all.

Have throw together a real quick drawing of my intended setup...hopefully will make more sense than explaining it over this thread. It's a purpose built room/closet at rear of office/garage beside my house. It's well insulated and secure.

My questions are as follows:

1- I have an extract fan (5" Ruck) located near the roof and connected to an external roof vent, it's 'pulling' the air from the Growspace right up thru the attic and outside. The run will be approx 4.5/5m, Is the extract run too long?

2-I have a decent sized attic space which has small ventilation grilles at the eaves allowing the attic space to breathe etc. I have the intake (5" low power Ruck) fan pulling air from the attic and hopefully 'pushing' it to the base of the growspace. Will this work and will there be sufficient air in the attic to feed the fan etc. Alternatively I could put the intake duct and fan near the external air grille but afraid that the air temps externally over the next few months will be too low and too cold.

3-Is the location of the Carbon filter (Rhino) suitable...i.e. should it be located near the extact witht extract fan 'pullin' air thru the filter?

If anyone could answer these question in order I'd be greatly obliged.

I'm all ears M8....thought I read before that it would be better at end and 'pulling' rahter than 'pushing' ?

Is a fan equally capable of 'pushing' & 'pulling' air..?

Guess if you read enough you'll eventually come back to where you started from...lol.gif...

Ey up mate,

Couple of things...

You don't need anything before your filter, it goes FILTER, FAN, DUCTING.

The Air will be very hot in your attic come summer, if you are pulling in from there and only venting out with a low powered 5" fan you will have probs.

How big's your room?

Room size 4ft wide x 6 ft long x 8ft high ceiling - only will be actually growing in 4' x 4' space with 600 HPS.

Take your point on the attic in summer but am looking only in the short medium term for my 1st grow...now to early next year.

The temps would be managable as you could always change your ducting to the outside vent anyway in summer, so the intakes good!

The extraction will need upgrading to a 6", you'll probably squeek by on a high powered 5" ruck I'd get a 6" personally.

Should ventilation be left on 24/7 even at early germination stage....seeds just popping up their heads?

No, I leave mine off for germing seeds, but if i put clones into the GR i turn the extraction on but I have the inlet fan off, but I only do this for a day or 2 until they settle in.

I'm no expert but I recon you deffo want more than a 5".....

I'm on a 6" with a 400w HPS and small tent... and it's not an amazing amount of airflow. With you wanting to suck it all the way up and all, prob get at least a 6" high power.
