Now then

I need some advice as I'm upgrading my lighting in my 1.8m tall budbox and I'm pretty undecided when it come to reflectors for 600w lamps. I have adequate ventilation, 6inch low power ruck extraction and 5 inch low power intake. The tent can be a bit restrictive particularly for sats. I always LST to help reduce height and improve yield. I don't want a cooltube due to poor spread and have considered a coolstar but I realise IR can also burn plants and that isn't affected buy the air-cooled shades. What else diamond, ultralite pro or adjustawing (not keen). I wish I could still get a mini grostar.

Any help gladly appreciated

600 watters usually get used in 1.2m x 1.2m tents and those tents are 2m tall. Are you considering running it in a tent that's a fair bit smaller?

How did you get on during the summer heatwave? Would a 600w have given you problems? If so I'd go for a parabolic reflector, seems Greens will be stocking an 80cm one as well as the usual 1m diameter ones when they come in. I'm a big fan of them, you can read the theory stuff that says they give 30% less light but I've pulled 700 grams, 1.16 gpw with one.

They do take a little bit of getting used to though, perfect for scrogs but I've had to swap back to the euro reflector twice with non scrogs so far because if the plants stretch too much, it's any reflector bar a parabolic, they take up a lot of height.

Thanks for the advice

I'm now back to thinking the cool-star 150

coolstar 150

as I have had height/heat issues. However that was running 2x400w in that tent during the summer

Pricey but seems like it will fit the bill of cooler with decent spread of light.

Now I kind have put mantis pro along side adjustawing in terms of design in my mind thinking of them both as adjustable bi-leaflet parabolic. They are open ended so lose some light but I guess it loses a bit of heat too.

I think if I had to resort to a heat spreader I would but ultimately i am trying to avoid it. There just seems something wrong with putting a piece of metal, however white or holey, in the way of bulb and plants.

Also I must admit it is reports of high heat output that put me off the diamond too.

Decisions, decisions

I love mine, only had in 2 months, 22 days from harvest no scrog, 1 foot high plant pots, 1.2m2 tent, 2m2 height, no height issues but it could be the BC I'm growing.

I strongly suspect my best ever yield will come from this shade, I don't care if the lights diffused it lights the plants so much more evenly than any other reflector I've ever seen and with a 1000w it puts a out so much light that even 3 foot below the canopy I've got buds as big as I got off my 600w last time in a cool star.

The parabolics are 1 mtr wide so they're definitely not for everyone, height for me wouldsn't be an issue If my tent was 1.8m tall I'd still have enough room this time. Since I din't scrog if you did you could easily grow any strain under it.

I don't think you folks across the puddle have these, but HydroFarm hoods are very nice.

I think the ones in the 11ltr pots are suffering a slight nute def rofl.gif

Myself and a friend of my mine who owns a grow shop tested loads of reflectors cooltubes, sputnik air cooled, supernova air cooled, supernova, diamond etc. Anyway to cut a long story short we found that the adjustawing performed the best, i now swear by the adjustawings they seem to spread the light like no other.

All the best m8 and make sure you choose the right shade spliff.gif

Tutu, have you tried the parabolic in veg? If I fuck up, that's where it happens. First time I had it as low as possible and I might as well have used a £shop cfl they stretched so bad. 2nd go in veg I raised it and the light bouncing off the walls seemed to equal the light from above and there was no stretch, they grew in all directions the same. Could control the heigt and shape of the plants with it if you wanted.

The main problem is not the reflector but the lack of light, the veg tent has a 400 cmh so only 25w psf, not enough and exact positioning of the reflector is needed. Might not be the best reflector for vegging but it sure is convenient.

Don't mind if I hijack this thead ? no ? okay then, I was thinking of getting an 'ultralight pro reflector' for me 600w (when the drobe is finished) was wondering if you good peeps had any expirence of them, what attracted me is their not as big as other parrabolics, here's some pics

Yes, I loved it in veg I use 600w MH @40w/sqft and swap to 1000w HPS @62.5w/sqft for flower I find this really reduces stretch I actually used 600w HPS's in veg to try and get them to stretch more. I've always seemed to be able to grow really wide shallow plants, but I top early and pick fan leaves off to open the lower sites, might be a longer veg but my plants never finish above 4.5 foot.

Never grown a true satvia though, I won't do that until I've grown enough bud for 9 months given how bloody long it'll take.

Mugwuffin I like that reflector I might buy one of those instead of another big parabolic, although I have a real soft spot for them. I'm seriously considering a grostar, the 42inch version as I like 1000w's of lovelyness a mini grostar apparently isn't suitable for anything ofver 600w and of course are sold out and discontinued anyway.

I use a parabolic reflector and its excellent, best reflector ive used so far. The light spread is amazing only thing is there huge! As long as you got the space go for it guitar.gif

I think the mini grostar reflector jobby is the best one ive seen but fuck paying £90 for a reflector.

NOTE - I was in Greens today and asked them about grostars and they said they did have a couple left so that might be worth looking into if you force yourself to part with the money guitar.gif

Got myself a mini grostar. 13.gif

Wasn't cheap at £130 but having hung it today and seen the spread of light and lack of heat underneath it I suspect it will be worth every penny.

Thanks for the advice

Iv been looking for two new reflectors been using two 600 cooltubes.the light spread is shite with the tubes so bought two air cooled super novas just hung them and the light spread is much better bit costly but had too be done.

Best reflectors i've used are parabolic from greens and pro ultralite, not to keen on diamonds, dont really see what the fuss is about with them.

Thanks for the tip I just ordered a mini growstar from Hydro shop in Manchester
and they still have 20 left. band.gif
I searched everywhere to get one of these and it seemed like this shop
is the only place you can get it at the moment,
They do have a website but the growstar is not advertised on their site,
I telephone and payed with PayPal's.
I am not advertising this grow shop just trying to pass on the place where you can get this.

So thank you again for the tip area 51 hug.gif
