Okay as the title says I've had a old Solid Server Case lying about for the past 8 months and I decided as my main Grow room is out of action for the time being i may aswell grow something plus I have enviro's lying about so i may aswell combine forces and get me a grow on the go.

Here she is...

Dimensions of the case are::

24" x 28" x 8" - Whole Case
24" x 22" x 8" - Internal

I'll be using 250watt Envirolites for Vegging and Flower with the trusty old PC fans which came right out of the case and are gonna be re-used for intake and out-take fans. A carbon filter will be probably have to be a DIY jobby but at the same time its part of the fun.

And after the Guts had been removed....

I'm expecting some white n black in the post tomorrow to line the case with and i'll be sorting out the wiring aswell as attaching the e40 fitting for the bulb.

More pics will come tommorow smile.gif

Randalizer
Nice box. yes.gif This could be a very good read.

Envirolites may be the cheapest, easiest way to cram that much light in there, but have you compared to linear aquarium lights? Linear Fluros are much more efficient. And if you can mount the ballast outside of your tower, so much the better (less heat, less bulk in yo box).

No matter what, it will want to get hot in that box!
Skinny_Jimmy
Yea im hearing ya Randalizer. I'm intending on using maybe 4 fans x2 at front and x2 at back which should be more then enough plus i was thinking about adding maybe some extra lights like you say the double Linear fluro's.. i was thinking maybe using cool ones which can aid in flower also when i change over the red enviro.

I recon maybe 2 or 3 either side would be enough but as you say heat will become more of an issue in adding more lights ive more then enough room in there add another fan smile.gif

I've been sitting here trying to work out how I'm gonna run the fans. I would have thought that 2 x 120mm Fans attached to a single power supply and use this as an Intake but i havent got one of those voltage changing adapters so i've been perusing some of the threads on wiring these little badboys up.
Best i could find as a make shift power supply is an old Bthomehub 15v adapter, but wiring 2 fans to it im not sure would be enough power for both so im currently trying to wire them up..

pictures should follow if i dont electricute meself in the next 5 minutes lol.gif
Skinny_Jimmy
ok, im still alive and after a little tinkering ive cracked it! I found where ive taped the 2 fans together I could only get them back to back and i remember from trying to do this before about wiring it the other way and the fan turns in the other direction.
Anyway thats just what i did by connecting it the same way blabberbab did his one using a molex connector into the power connector and the black wire on the outer part, bit of tape and hay presto a bloody noisy fan. it truly sounds like a plane taking off on its own let alone inside the case, i'll be looking into sorting the noise level but for the minute I have extraction! yahoo.gif

excuse the picture, its late and Ive been smoking bowls of black widow most of the night stressing over a couple of wires lol.gif ..

As i said in the last post the fans are obviously 12v and the power supply is 15, its worrying me that i could burn them out very quickly..or am i thinking about this wrong? unsure.gif

anyway the dual fan combi will be placed in the back, i may yet untape them and use them as seperates if it cuts down noise.. we shall see... I'll be fitting them tommorow when i got time.

hehe just been reading, im in the middle of constructing something similar in my diary, Im wiring my fans the same way except with a multivoltage adapter. each fan is 240mA but using a 500mA adapter so should run them both no problems, good luck with the innovation smile.gif

here's how the case is looking so far... I managed to line most of it except the back and screwed in a wooden fixture for the Light Fitting and it sits around 2 inches from the top of the case. It really does chuck some heat out, but the newly made fan should help with that problem.

thats all for tonight, also if a Mod see's this *** I think this thread maybe needs to be moved to ---->> Here
little wing
hiya. nice case smile.gif

i'm growing in a server case. have two fans on the side for intake. one 120mm on the rear for extraction and three 80mm inside to move the air around. i've wired the extraction and the three inside together to one 12v adapter. then the two on the side for intake to a seperate 12 volt adapter. that way i've got more control in raising and lowering either seperately by changing the voltage.

did that make sense? i've been up all night with miserable insomnia pinch.gif

i mean.... on my last grow in the case i had the extraction and intake wired to the same adapter and found that it didn't give me enough control over the temps.

oh.... and i'm using 125cl and the temps have so far been stable, fingers crossed.

good luck with your project and grow.... i'll be stopping in to see how it goes!
Skinny_Jimmy
nice one little wing, cheers for the comments.

well ive been a bit slack on the build although it currently is in use. I managed to get a fan wired in and attached toa 15v adapter from my old bt router. Seems to do the the trick although it does sound a bit like a plane taking off. Im gonna be changing it and adding another 2 fans for inside the case. its jsut a case of finding the time. Im so busy ive started seeds and because the box wasnt fully finished ive had to make a makeshift cover for one side, it doesnt look very stealthy but its doing the trick so far.

As for temps im finding a 250watt blue enviro is a tad too hot although i think it can be solved. The one fan is positioned right in front of the light so air and heat is taken directly out of the case, only problem there is the light is escaping far too much aswell.. my rooms been glowing like a scene from the xfiles from outside. lol.gif I hadnt realised until tonight how bright the light actually is when the lights are off in my room..

heres a couple of pics to show what monstorosity i have built lol.gif .. notice the passive intake from the back of the picture, cut into the mylar, which is actually the front.. its the best bit coz it actually works! rofl.gif

the videos are in there to prop up the riot root cubes closer to the light. They are drying out a bit too quickly which is a slight problem but i think if there is more air blowing around the temps will drop more and hopefully fix the problem. if not im considering going micro Hydro grow 13.gif

and the 2 x Iced grapefruit and a bubblegummer

jiffa's pot noodle grow? oooh im intrigued... im in for this one then by the looks of it

E2a:: YEp im in!
Skinny_Jimmy
4 days since the seeds popped and here is what i have...

2 x Femmed iced Grapefruit & 1 x Bubblegummer, both from female seeds co.

The roots are already looking awesome, i can see why they call them root riot cubes. Ive also been feeding a tiny bit of bio-bizz root juice to the water and they seem to be loving it although the bubblegummer is a bit of a runt. shame coz i wanted this one to be the best of the 3 but as it is, i'll just have to wait and see if it perks up..

The repot will have to happen tommorow daytime but im still not sure wether to stick with the dirt or have a little micro hydro experiment.. think i will sleep on it..

Day 8 - Repot day

This was a few days ago where the root cubes went into 3inch pots filled with Westlands MP soil. Nice and happy... Ive had no problems what so ever. Ive been feeding them nothing but water with 2ml/litre of Bio Bizz rootjuice.. I have fallen in love with this stuff... wait until you see what happened in four days to the roots.... yahoo.gif

Day 12...

2 x Iced grapefruit (the biggens) and a well stunted bubblegummer lol.gif

These are going to be due a repot possibly tommorow already! The roots are really thick on both plants and hanging out of the bottom drainage holes. I got the root juice to thank for that. I have been only filling the bottom tray they are sitting in and not from the top which i think i might always do it this way if this is the result from the roots. The 250 watt Blue enviro is perfect and my one fan is drawing more then enough air thru the whole tower. Ive had no problems whatso ever im so far very happy with this build, Its not much to look at but it certainly does the trick!

Hello all,

Im new and starting my first grow. I also used a server tower for my box. As for the power supply for my computer fans, I used the stock atx computer power supply for this.

this way you can power a 12v fan down to 7v decreasing the speed of the fan.
also eliminates the use of molex connectors.

but you can also run 5v, 7v, 12v ect. Basically i turned a atx power supply into a lab power supply to use at my whim.
i can run multiple fans in different boxes when i build more.

the computer case im using is a temp untill i can build a better box.

If anyone wants some info on how to do this i would be happy to give some input.

Edit: Im sure some on here know how to do so because its very simple, But being new i would love to learn and give any help i can to progress any information on here for others.

Great box Jimmy!
I´m gonna make one of those as a christmas gift for myself.
All the best for your plants, btw the bubblegummer seems properly stunted but the other two look lovelly.

Peace

Server towers are a real cool idea, I did my first grow in one. Even got a reasonable 25g return for a first time in a tiny space.
One thing i will say, I had massive problems regulating temperature due to the small space, but you seem to have it sorted biggrin.gif

Lookin nice and healthy Skinny_Jimmy biggrin.gif
